It still uses OpenGL for games
UI smoothness is not upto iOS levels, i am not talking about speed.
Updates are notoriously difficult for OEMS
Game drivers are not updatable like Windows
Being Java based means improper utilisation of resources
IOS has better RAM decompression
But I would still take Android anyway.

If you asked me 5 years ago, how I would choose my smartphone, I would have put UI as one of the top properties, bit now honestly I don't care, as long it has decent battery and better cameras.
Honestly everyone has improved, Oppo and Vivo used to be dreadful, but they have vastly improved and more polished than ever before, same with MIUI and TouchWiz which became excellent OneUI

Earlier, one could rate certain skins like miui and color OS low as they were heavy and did
not have the best optimizations.
In 2020, All Android manufacturers are providing great experience in terms of software.

Still waiting for a better Desktop Mode interaction. I would definitely love to see the ability to use fully legit Chrome OS when using Desktop Mode, even if it's just a Pixel-exclusive feature.

Weird, 16 Feb 2021Exactly! People love stock android but now, almost a lot of... moreStock ROM skips practically all the useful features that are more likely to be present on other Android skins (irrespective of whether they are light or heavy skins).
People who brag about stock ROM being better usually lack experience of using different Android skins (especially skins from 2020).
I have used All type of phones as daily driver in the past decade.
About 30-40 phones over a period of time, mostly flagships.
In 2020, I'll rather use one ui, miui, zen ui, Color OS based Androids over stock OS which lacks latest features and is basically playing catchup.
