Anonymous, 07 Sep 2012Supply in processing chip from different suppliers ???
wha... moreWhen Apple ordered components from Samsung, Samsung had to supply according to Apple's spec and quality requirements. Obviously the same will be required of the other suppliers.
Quality requirements are set by the buyer, it isn't a take it or leave it scenario. Of course, of the components were controlled by a monopoly that would be a different thing.

Anonymous, 07 Sep 2012Sure but Samsung also will now lose another thing, inside i... moreWell you have to look at the different strategies:
Samsung promoted an image of quality even on cheap phones no one can doubt that not the Apple fanboys nor most other ppl.
On the other hand Apple relies on an image of "high-end" trendy devices, but that only works if the devices are of a quality that justifies the price.
I repeat this is the image they promoted doesn't realy mean it's true.
Like it or not Samsung working to make quality components and products helped Apple sell their products.
Look what happened to Nokia when they messed up with the Symbian and the quality of their high-end phones droped, this can happen to Apple 2.

SGS3 has been very successful, but I dunno about you guys, but I think recently has been a nightmare for Samsung. 1bil loss in the case, lowered stock price as result, building hype for iPhone 5, Nokia with Lumia 920 actually making waves in the press, innovating in camera and PureView screen (taking away the AMOLED hype), Xperia TX beating SGS3 in benchmarks.
Don't get me wrong, SGS3 is an excellent phone, but it's dominance it once had such as SGS2 and SGS is simply diminishing at the moment.

Take a dollar out of your right pocket, now put that dollar into your left hand, and then place it in your left pocket. How much do you now have in your left pocket.
Surprise! It's still one dollar. Profits are made only when you sell to an outsider my friend.

Samsung should stop selling critical components to Apple. At the same time, Samsung should create the a better smartphone & the tablet PC each time before Apple launches its new device but with price 20% to 30% cheaper.
Samsung should also look into high quality media player to take away the share of the ipod.

It's quite tragic really, Apple and Samsung had a very healthy and friendly relationship, until Samsung took advantage an actually copied lavishly.
One can understand why Apple would now diversify its supplier strategy.

Anonymous, 07 Sep 2012Samsung fans here are amazingly ignorant about basic busine... moreDon't have to be a fan to understand but there's also other possibilities and contingencies. This latest news should have been (if it hasn't already) part of Samsung's listed fallout risks before the concluded pre-Apple suit. Painful yes but not totally miscalculated let alone a complete surprise. I mean in the longer run, would anyone keep a customer that had just choke held your throat for USD1.5bill off you? I don't think so.
It's about sucking it up and moving on. If I were Samsung I'd take this as a good measure to just ante up the game. Lesser rivals such as LG are apparently doing just fine minus the lucrative Apple contract previously until now and do realize that at the very least Samsung has proven that they have better mobile SoC + chips' + display engineering chops to back things up. They just need to smell the coffee on everything else.

Anonymous, 07 Sep 2012LOL, you're right,
but in these case, it might also be tha... moreThey are not reducing their purchases, they are replacing Samsung with different suppliers, in order to reduce dependency. They are now ordering from Elpida, SK Hynix another Korean supplier, as well as Toshiba.
So while the orders may be the same or more, this time there will be no one single supplier to Apple.

[deleted post]Yip, you're right there. Apple is the most valued company (share value)in the world, whether you like it or not. And Americans are only interested in one thing and that is the BOTTOM LINE!! I know because I used to work for a US company...
Of course they have already a substitute for Samsung made chips...And mark my word: Apple doesn't need Samsung....
And one more thing: I don't own a Iphone and don't want one either...
