As supply of Snapdragon 835 chips runs out, the F(x)Tec Pro1-X will switch to the Snapdragon 662

17 February 2021
The switch to a new chipset has pushed back the estimated shipping date, but it has also brought along some upgrades (and some downgrades).

I bought pro1x, and was flim-flammed by those ne'er do wells by cpu change and extended delivery dates! The rest of the buyers should be mad as hell & get a refund or another phone! They only offer excuses!

I am a fan of keyboard phones since the Sony Xperia, Dopod 838 Pro/CHT 9000, HTC Fuze, etc...
When I switched to Android, i went to using HTC Desire - Sony Xperia Z, Samsung Galaxy Note 2, 3, 4 until physical keyboards became available again; Blackberry Priv, and Samsung Galaxy Note 5 (keyboard cover), Samsung Galaxy S8+ (keyboard cover) and now I am using Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (keyboard cover) as my primary phone w/ Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ (secondary) because it doesn't have a keyboard.

Now, my note 8 is starting to lag and i am afraid that i will have another phone without a keyboard. Looking forward to checking out this phone, hopefully it will work great with my needs.

The correct way of looking at it, is that its expensive for what its offering right now...

IpsDisplay, 19 Feb 2021Come on man you know the 662 is a slouchNot really. I've been seeing this industry since years.
I had a Redmi 2 Prime that went well with right firmware, with Snapdragon 410. Secondly, my wife has a Snapdragon 625 enabled Redmi Note 4 with 1080p screen, that's still doing fast in 2021 with a 128GB card too.

In short: its the latest OS versions that are making phones slow. All the talk about Android O being faster and all, all rubbish, hogwash...
If this was true, how does today's OS cost more than 15 GB on internal storage?
Wasn't it more like 2.3GB~ in the Redmi 2 (8GB) days?

Its an industry... They make stuff, planning more about its obsolescence first. And bloated OS is a huge part of it.

Small company like that won’t write detail spec, just put octa-core and ghz speed, nobody know and don’t even care about that

Why can't they get a later flagship processor!? It obviously has a better imaging sensor, better modem, better GPU. Does this company hate the majority of all the tech savvies, wannabe or real? Latest flagship sells more and I don't care and believe that a weaksauce processor sells more than the best.

the SD662 (SM6115) is an adequate replacement for the SD835. The big feature of the 835 was that it supports HDMI out directly, something that appears to have been quietly dropped in the following models, and FxTec was proud to support HDMI on all OSes. This will be interesting what this means for drivers for the Linux based Distros on it.

Such great minds yet such poor choices as this could be my HTC Desire-Z love reviver.

If the Snapdragon 835 and 662 are equally priced, I wouldn't consider them a downgrade...

My reason is that, there are some upgrades of 662 due to it being new... so we can't think narrow minded, just performance on mind. Maybe the extra features will be worth it?

And 662 ain't no slouch, although newer expectations might crush it.

from the way things are going, and how it's been delayed not once...
Am guessing let alone a cpu downgrade some of the buyers/backers prob won't get anything at all.
this smells like escobar all over again. better request refund now while they still can. these guys might be having a hard time n just delaying on purpose... promising everyone an upgrade to 8gb 512gb bla bla bla, but actually just trying to get more victims in to cover cost for the prior orders, before finally closing shop n pulling fast one.

I'm surprised they were able to purchase sd835 in the first place, and if so what were the creators thinking?!? That this currently 5 generations old chip will be produced forever? And instead of switching to similar but available chip, they went aaaaall the way down to lowest mid-low option. Guess this startup will be DOA if there will be any arrival..

Another 'boy' who answer their own question!

'There were times when SD410 was a mid range chipset...'
Do u know WHEN did SD410 released? 2014, and most phone powered by it were released in Jan 2015, which means freakin' 6 years ago!
and, NOPE, SD410 were NEVER mid-range chipset, Quad-core Cortex A53 were the epitome of LOW-END; TONS of sub $100 Android phones were powered by it (e.g Redmi 2 which only cost $100 in my country at that time)

low mid-range SD should be SD615, which has 8core Cortex A53, and high-mid range were the infamous SD808.

'...660 is low end, then SD845 is mid range or what?'
Half right, SD660 IS low-mid range now, as Qualcomm upgraded it to SD660 AIE few years ago (means, it got the 'NPU' available in SD835). Since Qualcomm upgraded SD660 to increase its value, they instead released the 'cheaper' versions, which known as SD665 & SD662; both are made using 11nm lithography which reduced the production cost, as well getting watered down Adreno GPU (Adreno 512 are too powerful, as it support gaming up to WQXGA / Quad HD / (2560x1600), therefore the introduction of the 'all new' Adreno 610 which support gaming up to Full HD+ (2520x1080))

As with ALL previous flagship SoC, last years' are the new mid-range; that's why phones like LG Velvet (SD845 in SD865 era), LG G6 (SD821 in SD835 era), Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 (SD820 in SD865 era), and many more exist; they are more powerful for mid-range compared to ALL SD6xx and SD 7xx SoC in MOST aspects (CPU, GPU, NPU, 4G/5G modem, ISP, DSP)

                                '...662 is a bit worse than 835'
WHAT? Even the original SD660 could only achieve 1/2 SD835 in both CPU & GPU (especially the later), andahere u'r blabbing SD662 only 'a bit worse'?

'...if you keep the resolution low, it is perfectly fine. '
You know what? Don't talk big when u doesn't know sh!t.
Crowdfunded products are INSANELY overpriced, even the cheapest options are around $600; IF they can't meet the demand of the promised specs, they SHOULD NOT LOWER IT, instead get the alternatives, such as from Exynos 8895, MediaTek Dimensity 1000, or SD845!
This move shows how shrewd the f(x)tec as a company is; instead of delivering products with similar performance to their original promise, they choose to downgrade the quality of their products, as with SD662, most of the backers should just get Poco M3 with 1/4 the asking price of this fraud!

Rk100, 17 Feb 2021yea I agree, the SD 600 are low-mid, older 600, like 660/63... moreThere were times when SD410 was a mid range chipset, the SD210 was a low end. If you tell me that 660 is low end, then SD845 is mid range or what? SD835 is still great after so many years, and 662 is a bit worse than 835. Though the gpu might be way weaker, if you keep the resolution low, it is perfectly fine.
