Anonymous, 18 Feb 2021What has anything to do with sun out with the temp of weath... moreJust to say that 9 days ago was -29c in here too North-East-Europe and nothing happened with the electricity and stuff. It's every year basically in February that is the coldest month in a year. Well it comes and goes tbh. 5 years or so no snow pretty much full winter then 3-4 years with loads of snow. There is no signs of global warming in here

Anonymous, 17 Feb 2021Do you know how much sun is there right now??? Like none, i... moreWhat has anything to do with sun out with the temp of weather ? I have clear sky and temp is also -17 Celsius. Even tough it's night and dark. Full day was sunny but still was around -10c

If it's cloudy and snowing then it's a different case as the snow will cover all the panels and it wont be easy to clean up if it gets covered back in 5 minutes

Anonymous, 18 Feb 2021I'm going to stop you at "Wind turbines froze.&qu... moreMy point is that it's combination of circumstances. I live in Iowa, we get more more wind generated energy per capita than any other state in the US and yes, ours don't do this either. That said, we also don't get lots of ice. Our air is always cold and the snow is dry. There was significant icing occurring in West Texas and much of their precipitation was ice. Ice usually occurs in these areas as winter precipitation when the cold air reaches the warm air from the Gulf. Yes, this is a VERY unique circumstance.

I live in Texas...this outage is no joke. There was power, just the idiots running the shows did not do a good job running the show. which caused the outage. Now the blame game is on as why it happened. By the way, when the outage started there was 4.5 million people without power in suburbs but in the city (Dallas) all lights where on !! You can see where the allocated the most power...for the businesses , even though most people are working from home. So they screwed up. As of now 2/17/21 there is about 2 million without power still. My house got into the mid 30s, no internet, no cellphone data and at time no cellphone and could drive on the roads ( they screwed that up too)..that's no joke!! Well, I had crash course in ''how to survive freezing weather like eskimo ' ... anyone want to know ? !!! not asking for symphty , reporting how it really is....someone said 200K people.

There are at least three wind turbines that provide around 1,000 kilowatts to two research stations in Antarctica. Let me repeat that: in Antarctica.

You're telling me that this incredibly rare, "once in a century" event made Texas colder than Antarctica, whose temperature ranges from -10 to -60 celsius?

Before you tell me about how the lubricants used are different, let me remind you that the temperature in Canada ranges from -20 to around 30 celsius, and they have cars and s#!7 that work just fine in those conditions.

Yes, nobody could have forseen this blah blah blah it's still a Texas problem. You can't tell me this drop in temperature happened so abruptly, having a fair ~25 celsius one day and suddenly it just drops to 5 celsius the next day.

Gandalfdenvite, 17 Feb 2021"power outages", USA is an absurd mix of a develo... moreIt's not that simple though, as this is a once in century type of weather phenomena that hit Texas. Unlike the rest of the US, Texas is on it's own unique grid as well. They have plenty of capacity for generating power, but due to the rarity of this type of event, it took extraordinary weather to take it down(kind of like massive hurricane would). Wind turbines froze, gas pipes for natural gas froze because they aren't insulated like they would be up north and even a nuclear plant had to go offline due to a sensor being frozen.

The entire state of Texas never gets this cold and while I'm sure they can mitigate this a bit, you typically don't build your infrastructure around a once in a hundred year type of event.

"power outages", USA is an absurd mix of a developed wealthy superpower with the most advanced and expensive military in the world, while at the same time USA is an underdeveloped country that can not even provide the most basic things to everyone of it´s citizens, electricity and healthcare!
