It's a first-gen implementation after all.

AnonD-964130, 19 Feb 2021Nice info ...dint read the samsung mechanism of the under displayThanks, it is one of the many interesting things GSMArena didn't make an article on for some reasons.
Other interesting things I did keep was those :
*Vivo detachable pop up selfie camera :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Abpi7koE6w4

*Oppo and Xiaomi removable camera module :
https://www.engadget.com/oppo-removable-camera-module-phone-patent-204039471.html
https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/29/xiaomi-patents-a-smartphone-design-with-detachable-rear-camera-layout/

*OnePlus Bezel selfie camera :
https://www.androidauthority.com/oneplus-selfie-camera-in-bezel-1200129/
Though this one IMO is just a regular bezel just slimmer than the average.

they tried, the cool part is that they made it work. awsome work ZTE anyway

Cyan111111, 19 Feb 2021I really don't understand why smartphone manufacturers... moreWell said. In the rush for bragging rights, they've created absolutely garbage. Customers will remember how terrible this camera was.

The problem is the low resolution secondary display, not the camera quality.

ZTE didnt paid to DXO hahahhahahha

At least they did it. I would buy it if was in a gaming phone. 1st gen UD. No problem. Well down to Nubia/ZTE.

Its an excellent 1st gen UD camera. At least they have the balls to make it happen. Respect big time.

Credit to ZTE to innovate something different and move forward, as the underscreen technology will become the norm, at present it is still in its early experimental stages. Respect to ZTE and Nubia.

They are Soon making 100 MP selfie cameras.

Maybe Cramming more megapixels to overcome blurry, smudge filled picture is the way to go.

Wonder which one was the least of them all

i can't wait for this to be better and become the norm or companies bring back pop up cameras or hopefully they remove the entire selfie cam.

I have seen a youtuber using the camera hidden behind the screen, and the photos are even worse images than the photos taken by the old phones under Symbian or other non-modern systems. This is a clear message to the phone that might be coming out from Google, a new Pixel 6 or similar, with an under-screen camera: NO, Google. Don't put an experiment in your new phone that will make people have a bad experience. All this happens because of a psychological situation: People don't want the screen end in all the sides, need bigger, and this make bricks in our hands (phablets), and it´s not really a phone, it´s a old big PDA. And brand designers offer us curved screens, to give the feeling of infinite screens (big mistake, uncomfortable with fingers, reflections, blue tint effect, and easy breakage). That's why they removed the notch at the top of the phones and put camera holes: Wrong, because you prevent having a decent speaker in the notch and the stereo sound experience is bad and having a hole in the screen gives a bad effect, too, plus the hole should be in the top centre not side: many games use those side areas to put markers, the SIDES. The new thing is to put a camera under the screen which will never have, for now, the quality of a standard camera. The next thing is to make an all-screen phone in its body, which is already in development. There is a concept between brand manufacturer and customer that should be maintained: If something works well, leave it that way until a truly useful and trouble-free new technology gives a QUNTUM LEAP to the whole thing. In the meantime, we should all get used to what works well. And you, as customer reading me: Don´t buy experiments with your money, because really this are prototypes on sale, and you become a tester with you money.

So suddenly no paid issue regarding a China phone? I guess no people here favours a ZTE phone? 😝

                                    What a surprise!
                                    Lol.

Pop up cameras are also "under display", until we need them, in which case they simply come up and take a normal picture, they cost way less, they protect privacy, they are much more robust, reliable and durable than fearmongers like to say, they can be made IP rating compliant and still the lack of it haven't been an issue so far, and the Poco F2 Pro specs prove they are not wasting space.
But no, people want every phone to have the poor quality, privacy endangering and costly underdisplay camera.
And yes, it will improve, but it will NEVER reach anywhere near the quality of any other solutions, the ONLY proper alternative is the Samsung's patent for its "disappearing camera" which is basically an internal pop up :
                                    https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-under-display-camera-phone-1188611/

I don't care nor mind of phones with the underdisplay camera got released, and if people want them, good for them, but it should NOT, in any circumstances be a replacement for other options, nor flood the market as punch holes and teardrop notch do.

It's a first-gen tech. Obviously it's gonna be flawed right now. It's gonna improve tremendously in the upcoming years.

Personally though, I don't like this absurd trend of bezelless displays either. It's far better to have mini bezels which can hold front-facing stereo speakers for the best possible multimedia usage experience. Phones were so practical few years ago. Now it's just style over substance.

I'm now curious what BBK's child companies and Xiaomi offers for the next under-display camera on their products...

Since it quite unsure whether this Zte's is using the early form factor or the recent one..

                                        Hopefully, it's the earlier one
