Anonymous, 23 Feb 2021They also need a variable aperture, if the f number is too small.I want to add that they could simply use a crop of the ultra wide angle camera, though then the ultra wide angle camera needs a 40-50 megapixel Bayer sensor, otherwise a crop has a lower resolution. Maybe this is really the future. There would be no disadvantage regarding the low light image quality as every camera captures the same amount of light per time, if the field of view and depth of field are the same. The only disadvantage would be more noise in good light conditions.

A smartphone camera with such a sensor + hypothetical f/1.6 OIS lens would be equivalent to Canon Aps-c + f/2.95 OIS lens.

When everything was going in favour of this flagship, they spoil it all by not sporting 108mp or more.

Anonymous, 23 Feb 2021I have never seen Samsung isocell is better than top shelf ... moreSamsung NX1 with APS-C CMOS Sensor had phenomenal reviews. Of course Samsung exited camera business as that was and is an declining business with entrenched incumbents.

GN2 has specs that has nothing else in its ballpark. Of course specs in itself does not make a great product. You need to combine with good optics and great software. Sony phones dont have flagship cameras anyway. iphone cameras or Google Pixel or Galaxy Ultra or Huawei P40 pro plus have the best rated cameras anyway today. So I am excited for GN2 based cameras and keeping fingers crossed we will see it in Samsung flagship.

"as we have no doubt many would like to check what the beastly new sensor can do."
It won't really deliver an advantage, if the f-number gets worse. The combination of sensor size and f number is important. Sensor size alone means absolutely nothing for low light image quality.
If they want to use the same field of view with an f-number of 1.85, it won't capture more light per time than the Vivo X60 Pro Plus. If they use an f-number of 3.5, then it won't capture more light per time than a Pixel 5.
