I bought a 55 inches smart 3-D LED in 2013/14. Within 2-3 yrs, LG stopped giving updates. There's no Amazon Prime. Netflix app is the only OTT app that works only half the time. The wifi keeps disconnecting every now n then. It did cost me 1,05,000 INR that time.
Having burnt my fingers in the proprietary OS, I bought another TV which is a Google-certified Android TV. Fixed LG TV with Android box. Now it's all good.
I won't advise anyone to go for proprietary OS anymore!

beep bop boop, 24 Feb 2021what does hyundai want to do with WebOS?An in-car entertainment / infotainment / control system, perhaps?

webOS originated as a smartphone system and as I understand it, the operating system is quite versatile with minimal overhead (i.e. it can run with minimal resources on devices with less-powerful CPUs), which is ideal for an in-car entertainment / infotainment / control system.

In 2021, I still find it amazing that Bluetooth, RF (radio frequency) and Wi-Fi remotes are not commonplace.

Confused , 25 Feb 2021How dependable is LG tv app updates? Does anyone know? Just like Android and Tizen, webOS sees semi-regular updates (e.g. version 1.1 to version 1.2), but rarely sees upgrades (e.g. version 1.x to version 2.x)... This is an issue that plagues ALL of "The Big Three" operating systems.

Heinrich Heine, 25 Feb 2021Will LG keep updating WebOS ? That is the real question !NONE of "The Big Three" (Android TV / Tizen / webOS) currently provide more than the occasional update (e.g. 1.1 to 1.2) for their respective "smart" television operating system, and upgrades (e.g. 1.x to 2.x) are exceptionally rare across all three... So I wouldn't hold your breath for an operating system upgrade.

They have their own brand... moreNot too sure how old your television is, but the applications I have on our webOS television get updated regularly enough, and they work just fine for me... Regarding "smart" television operating system updates / upgrades, I'd hate to disappoint you, but NONE of "The Big Three" (Android TV / Tizen / webOS) see anything more than the occasional (minor) update (e.g. 1.1 to 1.2), upgrades (e.g. 1.x to 2.x) being exceptionally rare.

MU, 25 Feb 2021Disney+ is missing in the list. They may be missing from the list of "official" partners... But Disney+ HAS an "official" client for webOS - my daughter currently has it installed on her television, and ALL of the "webOS" televisions at work (I currently work for a major electrical / home appliance retailer) advertise Disney+ on their demo videos.

What great news for the "smart" television industry!

Samsung's "Tizen" is "average" at best and if you value your privacy, Google's Android TV is NOT the "smart" television operating system to look use... In stark contrast, webOS is a beautiful operating system with "buttery-smooth" performance, innovative features and significantly better privacy than Android TV (Tizen is also pretty good with privacy - though neither webOS, nor Tizen, are at the standard they should be).

webOS already has support for most major streaming services here in Australia - Netflix, Disney+, Stan. Foxtel and others - so hopefully we start to see some of the major manufacturers get on board with webOS, too... Sony would be ideal and as much as I'd hate to admit it, so would TCL.

We have moved away from both Sony and TCL; the former because of Android, and the latter because of both Android and because it is a Chinese company... A change to webOS could change that going forwards.

LG's problem wasn't the phone itself (It was okay), bur the terms they had for those wanting to make modules for the G5. You basically had to give LG all the rights and control to making your mods a reality and no sane modmaker was ready to accept that. Compare it to Moto Mods that didn't take away your know-how and you'll see why it was better adopted (Even though modularity didn't become the next big thing in smartphones)

LG WebOS is better than Android TV.
1-) It is easy to use
2-) Easy to switch between two Apps even when one APP is running. You do not need to close one APP to select second APP.
3-) Easy to change settings like, Colour profile, sound Profile or network settings without closing the running APP while in android TV I first need to close the APP then go to home and then settings to change the settings and then run the APP again. For example, if during Netflix playing if I want to change the colour profile, I don't need to close the Netflix first rather I can still keep on playing the movie and then change the colour settings to see the real time change in colour effects on that particular movie.
