Web OS is fast. Its5the most no nonsen5OS out there for TV. Android TV comes with a lot of bloat and LGs display panels are amazing. They are making some really good TVs.

LG firmware updates stop quickly. They have their own brand of apps and updates stop quickly for those. After one cannot use the apps anymore because the apps are not updated.

Best just get androidTV os and apps are updated for a long time.

Heinrich Heine, 25 Feb 2021Will LG keep updating WebOS ? That is the real question !My 2015 LG OLED is stuck on the (slow) WebOS 2.0 it came with. It gets updates with small fixes once in a while but that‘s it.

They are just confusing things with their is, same as samsung and then after a few months no more updates and their special apps for their is just become obsolete.

Androidtv os is the way forward for all tvs and then apps can at least be updated and used for a few years.

DonAKG, 25 Feb 2021Smart TV adoption outpacing streaming devices like Apple TV... moreThat does make sense after all. Who doesn't want to turn on their TV and their apps are right there?

That being said, I've been stumped. I seriously thought external devices outnumbered Smart TV usage for the reason of app availability (unless you own a Roku TV or Android TV). Guess that idea is thrown out the window. Not to say college students wouldn't appreciate it but oh well. Lol

Dometalican, 25 Feb 2021I've seriously wondered why we don't have 'i... moreTwo reasons exist for this dumbTV slump:-

                  1. SmartTV's are cheaper than traditional TV's because they earn ad revenue for the company selling them. Its just a 6% margin industry right now.
Due to this cheapness, they sell more.
                  2. (MY OPINION) Anything smart is getting a good push from the regulatory authorities due to their capacity to spy on us. See how rapidly mobile phone industry developed, compared to say, home appliances or automobiles or furniture...

Hence, we see lesser dumb TV's now.

Samath N8 808 owner, 25 Feb 2021Today, non smart TV's are just not available in market... moreI've seriously wondered why we don't have 'idiot TVs' when I guarantee most people use external devices to stream everything from Apple TV, Fire Box/Stick, Roku Box/Stick, Chromecast, PS3/4/5, XBox, and NVIDIA boxes.

Think about it: Solid 2160p@120Hz refresh rate (mix of mini-LED and OLED) in gorgeous, with 4 HDMI ports, DP, Aux port, Component and Composite port (to hook up old gaming consoles), and front-firing stereo speakers with barely any upper and lower bezel ALL for a low price because of ZERO network connectivity (wifi, Ethernet, webcam, NOR bluetooth). I can imagine a lot of techies giving this a shot.

When google has focuses in android tv feature, wb os will dead..

Joe, 24 Feb 2021Well, webOS didn't originate at LG in the first place.... moreLove my LG G5 which first gave us wide-angle cam.

When LG tried to think different with the G5 or Wing and still included removable battery as late as 216, they got bashed. When they tried being like everybody else, they got bashed. It doesn’t matter what they do.

Is there a safe smart TV with no privacy intrusion on any level, including national security level (without wifi/ bluetooth/network of any kind)? Sort of like offline smart TV... ?

Note20UltraIsBoss, 24 Feb 2021Pretty useless nobody wants anything to do with LG. Nobody should have anything to do with disposable smart tvs from any company ever.

Android tv boxes exist and work on all non smart tvs.

Never trust LG interms of software and it’s updates. Never.

after samsung , LG doing the same thing . i hope they improve the app ecosystem . Google has too much control in our life .

Confused , 25 Feb 2021How dependable is LG tv app updates? Does anyone know? Updates are fine but as I posted below, they need more apps in that ecosystem. If you use Sling, Youtube TV, Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV, Twitch, and Prime Video, you're good but otherwise, you're better off getting an Android TV like Sony, Sharp, etc.

Off-topic, considering Roku, Chromecast, and FireTV have televisions with those OS'es instilled in them, I'm surprised Apple doesn't partner with Vizio, Hisense, or Sharp to put in Apple TV OS in their TVs. Not like Apple has their own TV...

I have an LG TV and it does well with updates but the ecosystem needs more apps. It's still missing HBO Max, Spectrum TV, AT&T U-verse TV, DirectTV, Firefox/Chrome, and other channel apps like for Fox Sports, TNT, MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL.

I know that's on the companies' sides but they should reach out to those companies considering MLB, Spectrum, and others above are on Samsung's garbage Tizen TV OS.
