ROG Phone 5 snaps like a twig in durability test

Hmm plenty of factors could've come into play for the structural integrity of the phone. The antenna and the ports on the side. the dual batteries. there used to be one huge battery in the past iterations which contributed to its integrity, but now since it's one on each side it's putting in more force and weight on each side so bending it on landscape would really make shatter easily. (I mean bending it on portrait would be a fricking miracle right?) The regular glass back contributes this too. and the gap of the batteries where the CPU and vapor chamber sits really makes the phone very weak in the middle.
So yeah.

Don't worry guys, rumor has it, they are planning to release the Asus Zenfone 8 series (8, 8 Pro and surprise, 8 Mini, yessss).
All of them with SD888 on board. Asus 8 Mini is rumored to have 5.9-6" oled display. Perfect compact phone.
So, I think people wanting an Asus phone, will soon forget about Rog 5. Lol.

Anonymous, 18 Mar 2021Poor attempt at false equivalence. A drop test at least dem... moreExactly there is no point of a bend test, it is just a way to show a really good phone down. ppl might say its not durable but the test doesnt depict a scenario that u would come accross in your daily life. And plz its your fault if you have a habit of sitting on phones not the phones durability.

I did own a phone that snapped in half in his test too, but I never had issues with bending or breaking phones. And it was not a device that starts at 800€. It was 400€ Xioami. And that was years ago. These days even in those price range have done away with integrity issues. Which is why this super expensive brand new phone breaking is so disappointing. Even more so because all vendors really improved that across the board in last few years.

"premium" was the word people used to describe this when compared to iPhones... I guess snapping in half is "premium" now...

Anonymous, 17 Mar 2021What's the point of this test though? If a phone was s... moreHe applied very little force on the phone ! Even lesser than what you would apply on a smartphone if you accidentally sit on it while it's in your backpocket. Moreover, most of the phones pass his durability test, a failing smartphone is very rare on his channel. This phone genuinely has structural flaws.

I don't get why companies that spend a ton of money into developing their products fail to test them for durability even once before launching it in the market. That is a weak phone, and thanks to the man who tested it, I now know that it's not a good phone to purchase, especially at the price it comes at
