liquid... maybe more like a jelly?

RealLifePhones, 25 Mar 2021I am concerned about the durability. Will this lens survive... moreWell it's liquid so I'm sure it's going to break or crack. Only the housing can break, but haven't even seen the camera lens even scratching in the cheapest of phones.

If following the smartphone market in last couple of years has taught me anything, it's that everything is a gimmick until proven otherwise.

Until I see hard evidence from independent tester that it's actually improving anything, I'm taking this as just another marketing joke.

RealLifePhones, 25 Mar 2021I am concerned about the durability. Will this lens survive... moreWell, mate,we'll see..maybe it's a self-healing liquid..a "freeform" lens that regenerates itself..:)

Great, all that is needed now it is a liquid phone. You drink it then you command yourself to turn off the Lights, tell yourself the weather by the command: get-weather -lookout "window". Perfect innovation.

Anonymous, 25 Mar 2021This lens doesn't work like human eyes.Like - similar to and not same. So, Fella I meant what I said

Still waiting for Vivo's Apex concept from last year. We already got the gimbal stabilisation in the X50 & X60 series, now want the smooth & variable optical zoom.
Ofc Huawei's P50 series should also bring something interesting, can't wait!!

I am concerned about the durability. Will this lens survive multiple drops from all kinds of heights? And if the lens bursts from a drop will the liquid be isolating or is it going to short the phone and kill it? That's way more important than faster focusing

Dani2018, 25 Mar 2021Gimmik The Galaxy kite 3 or 4 had liquid hybrid lens, and as expected, it's was good. Liquid lens are difficult to do completely or in large formats, so Samsung had the first large format liquid lens system last decade, and most liquid lens use is in a hybrid lens stack, to replace many elements and reduce the Hight of the stack. It's a good way to get a good lens where you can do it. I don't know how excellent it can get though, compared to top lenses, but unless you are doing a feature film, it may not matter so much. I don't track these things, so don't know why it's not more widely used.

beep bop boop, 25 Mar 2021i thought Huawei would be first to implement thisHaving patents does not mean it is going to be used. Many things to be considered.
The OEMs have tons of thousands patents that will never make to final products (many are not viable from money point of view due to costs).

The underscreen camera for example. Only Zte has commercial device with this tech. But other brands have had patents for many years.

Huawei has lost tons of money because USA restrictions. Honor was responsible for more than half sales. Be sure many plans had to be changed since 2020.
