IpsDisplay, 30 Mar 2021That's more suspicion on qualcomm however Why are t... moreAll of it.

It's the way companies work, trying to maximise the margins, but in face a true competitors it's the way to suddenly see 90% of your chips unsold because the true competitors have finally suddenly released very competitive modeld technology wise, and most everybody has suddenly dumped your range.

I'll tell you something. The Chinese (not the Taiwanese here) have being investing more than the whole world into basic science in the past. The problem is amount of respect for the creative process and those who create in the face of grabbing every dollar. That sort of culture stops more profitability and enhancement and keeps one backwards. Grabbing means copying, and collecting to build up pile to sit on, rather than leading. Science requires not much real creativity, as is blindly process driven to stumble on answers in treating. Which is probably why mathematicians are a creative area in science (manipulation of process). But, eventually, we can expect the Chinese to have best military weapons, best technology etc etc etc from all this investment. Qualcomm might have to go Chinese to survive. Even Intel has been falling behind and looking at outsourcing chip making. They kept ahead for years with low energy 3D transistors (which I think might have been an licence of an Asian invention). American chip making could be set to crumble. The Chinese led NVIDIA buyout of ARM may give a shot to the industry on design and licensing side of chips, but can it stand up against the foreign competition? Donald Trump might get back into see the slide of America to oblivion under grabbing culture there. Once the grabbers at top have control of milking society, they don't worry so much about other industries and local production.

Many Xiaomi phones come with Snapdragon but redmi note 9 was a bestseller with Helio g85

guy, 30 Mar 2021This year the A32 and A32 5G use mediatek chipsets, not to ... moreLast year A51 was best selling Android phone and 2nd in overall phone, also redmi note 9 series were in top 10. I don't have exact number but probably A5x series sell more than A4x A3x and A2x combined. Only A1x can compete with A5x and this Year A12 is overpriced probably people will buy A02 more.

Mediatek has done really well with their Dimensity lineup.
But most of the Mediatek chips like Dimensity 820 and 1000 were available in limited number of phones.

I’m looking forward to the ARMv9 Mediatek chipsets which should arrive next year. Probably not a huge gain in performance, but security and features-wise it probably will. Besides the ARMv8 architecture is getting outdated too.

Rev-9, 30 Mar 2021yet profit margins are significantly lower than qualcomm'sThat's more suspicion on qualcomm however

Why are their margins so high?

How much of that is passed on to consumers

Are their any anti competitive means at play?

[deleted post]And, it does not matter, it is the company that is selling the most chipset, it does not matter if it is to your family, or to cheap companies, it is doing it

Anonymous, 30 Mar 2021Not suprised considering how cheaper MediaTek Phones are...... moreThey can concentrate on taking out the low and medium market with modest performance, and with specialist feature versions of medium chipsets. One can put in a bigger gpu into a medium chipset, say for a cheap game version, or more video encoding hardware for some camera/audio recording version with pro level video codec, which is as simple as cdng in a meta file folder for speed, or ProRes as approval I'm obtained from Apple, or even jpeg aligned to the Bayer sensor pattern (like is suggested that Braw has also done) or intra h264 or Heif, or newer jpeg standards, as they come out. As video cam quality is one area lacking compared to picture taking. Another avenue is complete privacy phones for normal people, business and government, which is software for phones which clients pickup with reference design for the chipset. Rugged trades phones with good trades measurement and recording features can use the video camera feature chipset, or normal chipset. The normal chipsets would have enough performance for 90% of people. It's the sort of specialist things I mentioned above which need specialist versions. A medium version with good GPU will perform virtually all games, except for high end 3D, and a specialist versions can cover a fair bit of that. Even Prosumer level video codec (75-150mb/s h265 12 bit, 4:2:2 4k, double for h264) will do most users with the biggest screens at 150mb/s wanting to edit a video together. These are nitches left open.

mediatek is improving every year and now smartphones companies now is ordering it
thats a good thing because mediateks are inexpensive and could make the smartphone price lower
they are catching up to qualcomm and might match the performance
it already beat exynos when it comes to speed and thermal throttling

Anonymous, 30 Mar 2021Not suprised considering how cheaper MediaTek Phones are...... moreThat's kind'a why Huawei became ridiculously huge - instead of relying on useless politics, they offered really good hardware at a very low price, hence the market itself decided that they should be rewarded for it.

The US instead of using the same strategy (produce great hardware at competitive pricing) and removing them from the market though customer choice, they decided to go with conspiracy theories and trade wars that only ended up hurting us (the consumers) though price hikes and less options on the market while providing NOTHING in exchange for that.

i dont know but i dont wish to Buy Mediatek Chip Phones..! inner voice says beware...!
