Phones never reach 70° C . About laptops the only componenst that reaches 70°C are the GPU and CPU .
The SOC can never reach 70° C bcz it ain't as powerful as an I7

Anonymous, 01 Apr 2021By the way, how could you even hold your phone when its tem... moreWe're not talking about whether or not a person can hold it. Our point is that it can indeed easily reach beyond 60°C when exposed long enough to direct sunlight in cases like it was forgotten out in the field.
Whether you can touch the device when it's 70°C hot or not doesn't matter; the device still went beyond 60°C that Xiaomi said to be the maximum limit of the liquid lens to operate normally. What we are after about is what would happen to the liquid lens if ever it gets in such situation that is certainly possible to happen in real world.

P.S.: A desktop/laptop CPU can easily reach over 60°C when operating heavily, especially the Intel ones. If I could touch an overheating SoC for a short moment, then definitely a 70°C phone is nothing for me.

And no, I did not say that something will be broken. I am just curious to know exactly as to what will happen with the liquid lens once the temperature goes beyond the limit that Xiaomi has told us. Wasn't that very clear enough right from my very first comment here?

i0S.-.Never.-.Again, 31 Mar 2021The average consumer doesn't care about updates.... Yo... moreIf I pay at least $700 for a phone, I definitely expect a long update. What is the point of buying a four-figure flagship smartphone if it's not going to have any kind of update at all? I might as well just buy a $400 phone at this point. But seeing Google can even give a timely update for the $349 Pixel 4a, it does show OEM's planned obsolescence agenda, particularly from the Chinese brands who keep churning out new phones basically every single day.

Anonymous, 31 Mar 2021Obviously, nobody knows exactly what would happen because t... morei actually share his concern. see, the liquid lens to be used by xiaomi here is departing from the usual liquid lens tech that uses glass and metal. it looks like xiaomi is containing the liquid using an easily pliable and thin material, more likely some form of plastic, and, as we all know, some plastic start to deform from 60°C. this temperature can easily be reached if you are using a smartphone (or in this case a foldable) in direct sunlight with the screen brightness turned up to the maximum, especially if you are in a tropical country like ours here in the philippines; a few years ago i was testing the camera of my then razer phone 2 while in a beach at noontime, after no more than an hour the back glass detached because the glue melted and the top and bottom plastic speaker grills became a bit warped. when we checked the temperature of the phone it was a little more than 70°C. so, exposure beyond 60°C is very much possible to reach and it is important to know what it will do to the liquid lens.

I though the point of a liquid lens was to eliminate all these camera modules and use just one good one, with multiple focal lengths. This makes no sense otherwise -just a bragging rights gimmick.

If you want to know it, you have to test it. However, generally if the operation temperature range is up to 60ºC, it doesn't mean that the device will get damaged if the temperature gets higher than that. It simply means that the device may not function as intended.

Chinese phones are getting good. I wonder if they are prepared for the new pandemic. Like U.S banning all chinese phones from having google service. Lol
Was just thinking abiut it since i use china brand phones. Hehe

It is really hard if not impossible to know why they give that threshold not knowing the technology Xiaomi is using behind its lens.

But I am pretty sure we can eliminate the chance of the liquid to evaporate or become gas at all at 60 degree.

If you search liquid lens temperature on google you will find experiments of lens at various temperature. Basically the higher the temp the less capacity the lens have to keep the focus, showing more and more blurry objects. The lens in the experiment showed blurry objects over 100degree. This has nothing to do with evaporation, but more with density and how the droplets place themselves cause of the raising temperature.
