You'd think that inventor Tony Stark would use something more futuristic than a Verizon feature phone - and sometimes he does. Sometimes.

Anonymous, 05 Apr 2021Removing jack is choice. Brands want people to believe ... moreTrue, it started with Apple doing it for forcing people to buy their wireless thing, lets be honest, if the headphone Jack wasn't massively used, they wouldn't have needed to remove it, it is a golden rule in computer tech to not remove older standards, which is why we can still use 3G network (well the phone and SMS still use 2G), connect with a Wi-Fi A or Bluetooth 1 device.

Then, as usual, Android brands copy the worst ideas from Apple (removing of the Jack, no more charger, notch, too slim body, making Face ID and fingerprint scanner interchangeable, etc) and ignore the good stuff (small phones, 3D face recognition, good 12Mp sensors with great software over 108Mp sensors with Meh software, still making phones with bezels, etc), the world we live in feel like a twisted version of a better reality...

Not exactly a blockbuster but there was a 2004 movie called "Cellular" with Nokia 6600 playing a huge role in it, and starring Kim Basinger, Chris Evans and Jason Statham. A few people recognized my 6600 as "the phone from that movie" back in the day.

Yup. It was probably a Samsung since the scene at the end was in South Korea and Samsung was a huge sponsor for that film.

Steve Rogers was also using a slate iPhone 5 in The Winter Soldier. In The Boys, Billy Butcher is seen using an LG G6. His phone kept changing in the show but it usually looked like an LG.

Many features you have on phones with Snapdragon cant be applied to phones with mediatek.

IpsDisplay, 04 Apr 2021I'd argue diversity in phones are equal nowadays or ev... moreOf course there is also a lot of things open for diversity, but many aren't.
*If you don't want a punch hole or a teardrop notch good luck, bezels are almost exclusively on Gaming phones and other options are basically non-existent.
*There is barely any powerful phones with minimum features to drop the price like the Pocophone F1, oppositely there isn't any midrange with a great emphasis on camera despite modern midrange SoC like the 765G being totally capable to handle those.
*The 3.5mm Jack is constantly lacking on premium devices despite being one of those thing who can easily be ignored by those who don't care about it.
*There isn't any thicker phone that offer a larger battery.

Many internal stuffs are interchangeable, like the Snapdragon vs Mediatek is just a brand preference as at the end it won't change anything for almost any users.
*ROM, RAM and main memory speed is just depending on how powerful the phone is which is driven by its price range.
*There are extremely expensive phones that fail to offer features that are the obvious thing everyone should put on a phone after a certain price, which like the 3.5mm Jack or the IR Blaster are the type of features that can easily be put on a phone without doing anything negative for those who don't care about them.
*Most phones have Wide + Ultra-Wide and many lack a good Telephoto, when there are additional sensors most of the time it is the useless 2Mp Macro + Depth, and I say useless because at 2Mp both are actually useless, and anyone with the slightest imagination could figure out to use the Ultra-Wide as a Depth Camera for the Wide rather than having to add another sensor.
When Ultra-Wide or non-2Mp Macro are added, they are often under the 12Mp minimum golden resolution which is the industry standard in photography, despite many cheap but good quality 12Mp sensors being available.
There isn't any continuously variable zoom, ToF are now rare, many high-end phones don't put the Periscope which proved many times to be much superior to the regular inline Telephoto, etc.
The only thing we have is Wide + Ultra-Wide and some combination of Telephoto or Macro + Telephoto or Macro + Depth.
*Many phones still have much too small battery capacity than what they could because they insist on super slim phones that no one asked for and many who have issues with or prefer thicker devices being left without options.
*Charging speed is nice, but not necessarily for everyone and every cases, a health managing software that allow healthy overnight charging, auto charging stop at certain percentages, capability to use the phone while charging it or to keep it plugged in for long period without issues, better wireless charging, a better standard on non-proprietary charging method (many still don't support Quick Charge officially), OnePlus like solution with the controller on the charger, all that would be much better than RAW power, which by the way use Watts to measure the charging speed, or conveniently time from X to T percentages, but at the end, this is a mess as no one know how fast a phone REALLY charge.
Even just giving us a standard for good charging speed would be much better than a 300W charging from brand X that actually isn't faster than 50W charging from brand Y.

Many things, even the resolution isn't really a real concern for many users above a certain point, that the kind of false diversity where those things aren't really making any useful/legit difference, like a 120Hz vs a 140Hz display, is it that much important to have this difference?
I am not saying it is a bad thing, but it isn't a critical thing that someone can choose.
Unlike not having a hole in the display, or wanting privacy, or wanting a phone you can hold without having hundreds of miss-touches per day, or being able to use your own 300€+ wired headphone while charging in public transport/at the airport/etc.

There is diversity in the most meaningless things and a lack of diversity in what count the most.
Good luck trying to find a phone with a small body, powerful SoC, fingerprint scanner on the back and no hole for example.
And mainly now that the important Wi-Fi 6E have come out and that updates are barely done for 3 years now, we can't even look at older phones as potential new main devices, hence why as I missed the Poco F2 Pro as I didn't have the budget at the time, I think it is too late now to buy one.
Let alone that I would like a similar phone with a Telephoto (ideally a 5x continuous Zoom that double as Macro and Portrait, or a fourth sensor being a 8Mp or more Macro) and an Ultrasonic underdisplay Fingerprint scanner.
Which is crazy that it isn't a more common format as it is viewed by many as a great phones as it doesn't lack most features, on a website not driven by click from news article like GSM Arena but rather one like Kimovil, it was quite often on the top 10 most viewed/popular phones, and still is from time to time, and it is N°10 by user satisfaction with more votes than most other phones :
                                  https://www.kimovil.com/en/best-smartphones-moviles/users-best-rated-smartphones-by-satisfaction
Same was true of the Mi 9t Pro, so it is crazy this huge offset from reality and the Smartphone industry.
The truth is, a huge nearly 7" slim phone with 50% chances of curved edge display, 50% chances of punch hole and the 50% other of teardrop notches, incomplete camera setup with rarely a Wide + Ultra-Wide + Telephoto all above 12Mp is almost all we can get nowaday...

That made sense a lot.
