Anonymous, 03 Apr 2021You can opt out of most tracking. What apps are they forcin... moreI mean, is not like they force you. But you buy a Pixel phone to use Google in house apps. That's the idea.
Anyway my problem was with privacy in Google apps. They track you and collect your data just about in any Google app. Of course, they do it for you to have a simple and easy experience online (at least they officially say it like that).
As a foreigner living in a foreign country for 4 years already, I found that apps like gmail, chrome, google maps or google translate have no rival. But they also are heaven for data tracking and data sharing.
I was heavily investing in Google recently (because I always found IOS to be a closed system). I bought an expensive Chromebook and also a Pixel 4a for an easy experience and connection between devices. Also, I was having Stadia Pro subscription. But, they let me down (like in the all fashion Google style).
And recently, with the whole Apple privacy controversy surrounding Google and Facebook, I started reading, doing some online research and I found out how bad these two companies are at privacy (Google and Facebook I mean).
That's why I decided to leave Google for good (delete my account and never use any of their apps again, not even YouTube).
I don't particular like IOS, but from two bad things (IOS closed system vs Google privacy issues), I choose the one least bad for me. So, I am an official ish**p now, lol.

Google is the most fined company in the history for a reason.
Shows how clueless you are about Google and their evil practices.

AXZz-D, 03 Apr 2021The pixels were never full of specs they always had a under... moreI think Google will downclock this chipset again The custom silicon is manufactured with a Samsung 5nm process. The SD888 is already having overheating issues, while the SD765G (manufactured with Samsung 7nm) had to limit its performance (making it far worse than SD845 in performance), though Google downclocked it to make it perform worse.
I think this custom silicon may be like the newer Exynos processors but Google is a play-safe.

I've found the Pixels to be much less intrusive and annoying than the million apps preinstalled on something like Xiaomi, most of which are duplicates and many of which serve ads.
And the bottom line is, Google is transparent about what it tracks. Many of the Chinese brands are not, so I'd worry a lot more about those.

Anonymous, 03 Apr 2021what about the GPU it's going to be a Mali GPU and it ... moreI have heard from XDA that it will be a Mali GPU, but I don’t know how many compute units it has nor the clock speeds and variant. It may be the Mali G78.
Will it suck? Not necessarily. The Kirin 9000 with Mali G78 MP24 (24 compute units) can go neck-to-neck with the Adreno 650 or 660. Real-world performance (gaming etc.) is already excellent, it comes close to the A14 GPU and both chips do not throttle much (assuming the Huawei is at performance mode).
Even the Redmi Note 8 Pro with Mali GPU comes close to a S10 Exynos in terms of performance, so it all depends on 1. Optimisation, 2. Clock speeds and CU, 3. Thermals (not a significant difference).

r33fd, 03 Apr 2021Pixel has bad specs and is overpriced at the same time! The specs do not matter, because the phones are well optimized. Similar to iphones in some ways.
True, they are overpriced (because why not, lol). I paid 450EUR for my past Pixel 4a.
But the built quality is really bad. I found more quality in a 150EUR phone from Realme or Xiaomi, lol.
Also, their privacy is a bad joke. And you are kind of obliged to use their own apps, at least with Pixel phones. Good bye privacy, welcome data tracking and sharing (because they need to make some profit no?). They are worse even than Facebook in this regard.

Use of the custom silicon allows Google to have more software control. Most current SoCs only have a 3-year software update policy. Using custom SoC may allow Google to do potentially 5 years and rival Apple in this regard. As for the camera image processing we’ll wait and see for more info about this.

Nick Tegrataker, 03 Apr 2021Or you will see Gcam no longer working on Snapdragon device... moreThe custom silicon is useless because remeber when they made custom ISP Silicon for Pixel 4 and the they put pixel 3a in the market without the custom silicon and but pixel 3a also shoots same pictures as flagship Pixel 4 which had custom ISP
Bottom line custom ISP is useless, since Google will used own chip for flagship and then they will use Snapdragon for A series phones whichbwill have same shooting power as Flagship phone but without Google ISP

Rkm, 03 Apr 2021Username checks out I know, right? Was either this or "phonebitch". Because I change phones frequently, depends on what I like in that moment or what recent experiences I had.
One of my last phones was a Pixel 4a, among other manufacturers. Now I have an iphone (not my first). Maybe 2 months from now I will buy a harmony OS Huawei and change my username to "ihateapple".
But, I have my motives why I hate google nowadays. And they are privacy related. Ohh, and also Google Stadia related.
Anyway, for me, google as a company (and especially their own apps) s**ks big time. Not that Apple is perfect, but at least is an existing alternative.
