Google also do not expect a lot of sales, in fact if Im not mistaken they pretty much expected that the Pixel 5 won't going to sell well. Also note that Google isn't trying to grab a huge market share with the Pixel.

So Google is struggling. Maybe the budget Pixel sells ok, but not the top of the line models.

dude111, 02 Apr 2021I was gonna say "an exynos 1080 with a beefier NPU&quo... moreGood catch, that's a likely upgrade as well in a Google-branded "Just SoC".
Also good catch noticing it will be the Exynos 1080, as it was reported almost one year exactly:
        https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_may_design_a_custom_exynos_chip_for_google_with_arm_parts_and_google_isp-news-42554.php
And that post confirms that it will have an upgraded ISP, the Pixel Visual Core and NPU. The rest of the specs are a 1-to-1 match with the Exynos 1080 so we already know the performance of the next Pixel. Neat!

The numbers in 2020 were weaker because covid.
          Phones have brought some profits.

Google has no plans to give up.

You lost me at "It is understood that this part will share design and architecture with Samsung Exynos processors" :P
They are trying to figure out things. I wish them good luck. Pixel phones have a lot of potentials. I hope to see great advancements in the near future.

It doesn't matter. I use Pixel and nobody buys them anyway just like barely anybody bought Nexus devices except hardcore geeks who enjoy posting stuff online and making YouTube videos.

ishreal, 02 Apr 2021Lol please don't tell me you actually believe this. Th... moreI think that what he means that "creative" side of smartphones is starting to die... Look at 3 years back in row, we merely focus in either camera department, faster/wireless charging, clearer, brighter screen, better soc, better glass/custom body build, different fingerprint scanner location, etc. Aside from those, they're all just experimental -- screen in the back, motorized popup camera, infrared camera, flir camera, flip phone, rotatable phone, hidden front camera, etc. Hardly any new hardware features except improving what are already available. If we keep doing this for next 3-5 years, yeah, it's pretty much "dead".

If the end to Pixel line is near, I just won't upgrade then. Be stuck with my old phones for as long as possible. I'm still using phones from 3 to 4 years ago, so why do I care? I only use my phones for text, call, web, and YouTube. Not because I'm dying to play Genshin Impact.

The newest Exynos chip (the 2100) is actually really good, so as long as they carry on along those lines this should be fine.

Why would they have to develop their own custom SoC when they can just purchase Samsung's Exynos ones for overall less price? My bet is that it has something to do with their camera system and computational photography algorithms.
Speaking of cameras, I really do wish Google would finally put the 12MP 1/2.55" sensor to rest now and transition to an even larger one. That sensor is already reaching its limits, and is just barely hanging in there against larger sensors at its peak capabilities.
Imagine just how much better their camera software will be when properly used on a more modern sensor.

An SoC that's about on par with a SD780G or a little more is fine and definitely acceptable of course, but at $900, it's simply a no-go, so hopefully Google wouldn't be ridiculous at pricing their new Pixel device.
