appgallery is rubbish. 8 out of 10 major apps are not present. so, no point of buying a huawei phone unless they cut prices in half. they are featurephones, not smartphones!

AnonD-994147, 14 Apr 2021What's the point in buying a Huawei with Harmony OS th... moreThere is a very good point actually - here in Bulgaria, most carriers sell the Huawei P40 Lite at $100. There is literally no other phone that can beat the hardware offered for that price.
Modifying it to add the Google Play services, while not something that everyone can do, takes literally 15 minutes work, then you get pretty much the same thing everyone else does at half (or even 1/3 depending on where you are) the price.
Inconveniences of the process are:
1 - uncertainty if the "hack" will remain usable after an upgrade to Harmony OS
2 - no Netflix (if you care about that)
3 - some apps won't have working notifications (Discord, Skype and one banking app are the only ones affected in my particular use case).
I've said it once and I'll say it again - the ONLY reason Huawei became a huge market force is that they beat everyone else in terms of hardware offered for the price. If the US wanted to get rid of them the RIGHT way, they should've offered something that can actually compete and let the customers decide this battle without inconveniencing them. What we have now is "the consumer will pay the price for this slap fight".

Currently Huawei is taking steps but the difference is so HUGE between Huawei and Google that right now it is not profitable to buy any Huawei phone due to the lack of Google services. Any banking app needs Google services to work well, and that the phone is certified by Google. My app to sign in at my company needs Google services, and with a Huawei I can't sign in. I need map-based apps for ship tracking, and those apps are based on Google Maps. And so many and many more problems. The best Huawei can do is try to reach an amicable agreement with the Biden administration (which may be easier than with the old Trump administration) and try to certify its devices with Google. There is no other way out if Huawei wants to regain market share.

This means that apps found in the Playstore can be easily ported to the Appgallery and there may no longer be a difference in offerings between the two. But I'd happily ditch Google.

redmi5a, 14 Apr 2021I use WSL everyday. WSL + VS Code offers a lot.So true. It was because of that WSL that I no longer use Linux as the primary desktop OS and return to Windows 10. Windows 10 really has mature a lot since its first existence in 2015.

What's the point in buying a Huawei with Harmony OS then? I will buy it just to keep away from Google apps, if anything.
I mean if you buy a Huawei phone and then install and use all the google apps, wouldn't be more logic to just buy an Android phone with GMS?

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Huawei if they would undercut prices by a huge margin(or at least 15%), they make pretty good phones but xiaomi or realme make more compelling phones WITH gms.

Which means, can we use Youtube, play store, docs, classroom, calendar, drive on Huawei phone? SWEEETTT. Huawei camera hardware + legendary battery life + 5nm no overheat + incredible design + fast charging + HMS with GMS compatibility? It's an dream phone.
