Computational is needed in JPEG image processing to compensate hardware limitation in a smartphone. I hope 1iii added a bit of it.

I can say camera hardware in Mi11U are 2 years ahead of 1iii. See what I did there? Cant wait for those two to be compared.

Then why post here instead of the 10 iii article? Lol.

Nick Tegrataker, 15 Apr 2021"Sony has said Quadbayer are much slower than Bayer se... moreOh, I forgot to mention, many people don't seem to realise that Dual Pixel sensors (like those three found inside this Xperia 1 III) are essentially dual Bayer sensors that allow the left half and the right half of the pixels to be read out independently to compare the phase difference. When taking a photo, just like Quad Bayer sensors, they perform pixel binning to construct 12MP image from data gathered by 24 million pixels.

So this entire "Quad Bayer sensor is slower than the regular Bayer sensor because it has to bin the pixels in a regular shooting mode" argument is completely moot.

Now THAT is something worth getting excited about.

Because the potentially has what I look for in a phone. Still. Aux output, SD card support, latest and greatest chip, and very good audio support. I could be swayed by the 5 III, as I'm also not a fan of the engorgement of phones over the last few years. The rest? Who knows. Some trolls, some folks making good points, some just touting their own phone preferences. I was looking forward to the LG Rainbow/V60 successor because it would have ticked all the boxes for me and then some, because audio chops is #1 consideration for me.
