Weekly poll: Sony Xperia Mark III tries something different, but is it worth the price of admission?

18 April 2021
Looking at these three you get the feeling that Sony is ignoring market trends and is content to do its own thing - would you be part of it?

Every teen and their grandmother has an iPhone 12 "Pro". Nobody is saying that phone is out-of-reach.

Xperia 10 Mark III, seems like a decent phone, but it all depends on its sale date and pricing. If there is a good alternative at the time of sale considering the price point, people might reconsider buying this. Xperia needs to competitive here or else it's going to end up as LG.

Yeah, based on the specs and features I agree it doesn't make sense to say that the Sony's specifically are 'too expensive' considering the price of most flagship phones currently. Sure, it's more than I want to pay, but the Xperia 5 III seems to be the only remaining compact phone with high end specs that still has a 3.5mm port as well as expandable storage, which is something I want when I'm ready to move on from my S10e (which may be coming up since recent software updates/changes from Samsung have made me enjoy the phone less than I used to).

Compact phone, good screen, good camera, heaphone jack, side fingerprint reader in the power button (got to like it with the S10e), expandable storage, close to stock Android software (based on what I've read). The only thing I kinda wish it had was wireless charging, but I can live without it.

I am willing to pay a bit extra for that kind of phone, since I've found with the S10e that if the phone has everything I want without compromises, I am happy keeping it for years. The only reason I even though of getting anew phone after over 2 years with the S10e is because of software changes in OneUI that affect how the media player functions, that are not an issue in stock Android.

Smithravi, 24 Apr 2021Just like any other flagship smartphoneThis absolutely! Can't get my head round all this 'Sony too expensive mantra' by phone reviewers and folks in comment sections. Yes they are too expensive but ALL flagships are too expensive and Sony priced about same as Samsung, apple etc. Even the value flagships like one plus or Xiaomi are creeping up there now so can we just drop this stupid argument about the price of Sony's phones and just review the product coz whether you think 4k is overkill and pro mode cameras are for 'enthusiasts' and not everyday users is kinda irrelevant. They going their own path and fair play to them and if folks don't like their designs or think they too expensive then look elsewhere, that's the beauty of Android that theirs a phone for everyone at every price point. I personally own a Poco X3 NFC which I paid £199 for (I'm from UK) and for me its honestly like having a flagship device as it does everything and more I need a phone to do. I'll never pay £1000+ for ANY phone after using this device but I still enjoy seeing what's out there and available at all the different prices(even though I find it hilarious how many new- 'read' rebranded/rebadged particularly Chinese companies release on what seems like a never ending cycle lol!) But again I repeat at least you can do some homework and get there right phone at the right price that suits your needs. Anyhows just my views, peace guys ✌️

LG gave what customer needed not what they wanted.
LG was the dark knight of phone companies. LoL.

This comments section is the same 10-20 posters you see in most gsm Sony xperia comments sections talking rubbish. So many falsehoods from both haters and fanboys alike.

The Sony Xperia 1ii is a good phone and a refreshing change from some of the Samsung's I had previously. Not perfect by any means but one of the best phones I have owned. The software is not buggy although I have had one or two minor glitches. The cameras are good but it does depend what you want from your smartphone camera system. There are better camera phones out there.

It's not widely adopted, the recorded quality is miserable and not to mention that it's not even possible with 12MP sensors because you need at least a 33MP sensor to capture 8K material.

"we’ll note that there’s no 8K video capture yet."

There can never be 8K video capture because there are only 12MP sensors built in there. For 8K you'd need at least a 33MP sensor.

Clearly it loses to other phones having bigger capacity. End user cares about battery life than patting Sony on the back for squeezing more battery life out of a tiny battery capacity.

Selfie cameras are definitely useless for selfies as even decent hobby photographers know that a selfie needs at least 1.5 m subject distance in order to keep your eyes and nose natural, without funny distortions.
The ONLY situation when you might need a selfie camera is teleconferencing. Where the superior megapixels or image quality are the least things you have to concern about.
Ask for premium quality main camera and leave alone the one for selfies!
