VectorR, 20 Apr 2021So if my Xperia 5 II was faulty indeed (typical suggestion ... moreDude whatever... go get an Apple, Samsung or a new Pixel... you are here posting half of the comments just because you have a dud.
It happens... and if Sony's QC is crap right now then you are an i.d.i.o.t. for buying an Xperia 5 and a 5 II...
For me they have been dependable devices with the exception of the fragility of the Z3 Compact series... but before that and after that I have had a very robust experience with great quality overall

Not the best solution for photography but good enough for my needs. I don't make a living out of being a Professional Mobile Photographer, so having good results is enough for me to store my memories and moments.

You really are a troll with nothing else to do but to make 150 comments on an article that's clearly not meant for you.

Go write something positive, go do some constructive criticism instead... go praise Apple, Samsung and Google...

I won't sell my phone cause you got blurry results on your pictures, it is YOU experience, not mine... mine has been superb so far and I will most likely upgrade to another Xperia in the future.

LucasN82, 20 Apr 2021There is no perfect solution/devices.Yeah, my point was that if you have the know-how you can achieve incredible results with manual mode... and you can create other results that aren't possible with just AI.
So all in all I was still impressed with my results I love playing with it.

VectorR, 20 Apr 2021So if my Xperia 5 II was faulty indeed (typical suggestion ... moreSony is known for quality control issues.
This is why it doesn't sell anymore in most countries.

In 2021, one can trust Chinese manufacturers for quality, not "has-been" companies like Sony

DQ, 20 Apr 2021I think you have a defective device or something. The only ... moreSo if my Xperia 5 II was faulty indeed (typical suggestion of Sony fans by the way), it basically means that Sony / Made in Japan doesn't mean quality anymore! You won't believe me but right now I'm holding a Xperia 5 which makes horrible photos with main camera - every single photo has big blurred patches from the left and right side. I can upload pictures to prove it as well. Why is that? Where is Sony quality? Suggest Alpha team just smoked weed with mobile camera department there. That was their main contribution :). And yes I still use my Pixel phone as a daily driver because it never let me down. I never get shitty photos from it, neither not true-to-life or overprocessed. Because Google (Apple , Samsung) still has some brains left to understand that computational photography is the only way to get something really good from dinky smartphone with tiny lenses and sensors. And, believe me, Sony eventually will come to it too if they wanna stay in this business. They're just stubborn, sluggish and 2 - 3 years behind the others.

Yes Pixel makes sharper centre, but that car doesnt have windows :) (only tripod can help here). Its hard achive perfect results on any camera ;) Astrophotography is hard because optics (lenses) sometimes has "coma" and stars are moving (earth is moving) soo u need large sensor (for lower time). Xiaomi has funny add on YT that say "this smartphone can do astrophotography". Yeee sure (when you use 50.000USD telescope).

I recently tested a pitch black picture against my wife's Pixel 4a and to be honest, the astrophotography mode was able to catch more light, better dynamic range, color and sharpness during the 4 minute (exposure?) that it took....
However I managed to achieve a similar result, albeit softer with Manual mode using 30s, ISO 400.
This phone would definitely benefit from some AI modes, but the manual options are very powerful as well... we just have to put a little more effort.

Here you can find the comparison by the way... THIS IS A PITCH BLACK 2AM scene.

I have been very satisfied with my phone when though Auto mode isn't on par with the likes of Pixel (my wife Pixel 4a takes impressive shots) but the manual versatility of the Sony allows for complex shots that aren't possible otherwise.

I just don't understand why you still have an Xperia if you are so pleased by the Pixel... You could have saved money sticking with a Pixel 5 and the beloved AI computational photography.

But in all honestly the results with mine aren't as bad as the ones you posted on XDA... It could be a defective unit
