Google being Google.. Well they messed up its flagship phone segment with pixel 5. Pixel 4a 5g has 765g chipset. Don't understand the purpose of releasing same set of hardware after 7-8 months. By Google standards it won't be cheaper than pixel 4a 5g.
Why not SD780?
Google : it is exclusive for pixel 6 & XL variant.

I really wanted to buy a Pixel device, even if it was head to head with the big players in terms of pricing. But given Pixel's poor choice of processor for it's current lineup, this will always remain a wish unfulfilled. Even for a mid-ranger, Pixel 5a seems to be nothing but a disappointment.

These are aimed at people who want stock android over everything and are willing to over pay just for the stock android. Like every other premium brand phone that dont have good hardware for the high price they ask for

The Pixel 5a is supposed to be a lower tier variant of the non-'a' Pixel variant of the same generation, so it's actually quite surprising that they even offered the same SoC as the flagship even though it should even have something inferior.

They don't want to compete too much with the 5, so they're keeping the processor the same, chances are they'll get better prices for it as well for using it in more phones. It will allow them to up the specs in other areas, like giving the 5a 8GB of RAM over the 6 in the 4a which among other things means 64bit Chrome.

I personally hope Google will release a Pixel 5a which is in most aspects and physical dimensions a cheaper built Pixel 5. Put in a 6 inch 60Hz or 90Hz display, 4000mAh, SD765G or 750, plastic built, 6/128GB but cut the aluminum frame and body, IP rating, wireless charging and 2GB of RAM. Price 399$/399€

There's a 780G by Qualcomm, which is a significant upgrade over 765G, but google says no. Sticking to 765G instead. Not worth buying this phone.
