Lyndino, 27 Apr 2021So having sharp pictures is a bad thing? Correct me if I... moreIt's not "wrong" to have a preference for over-sharpened image, but most (like quite literally 99% of them) photo enthusiasts and photographers that I've known in real life or seen on the internet prefer more natural looking images with softer edges but more natural textures, and I think it is safe to say that that overcooked details are widely regarded as *bad* things to have.
Your comment that "Samsung [is] killing Xiaomi's Mi 11 Ultra out of the water" and "it's still far better in these samples" suggested that S21 Ultra is taking an objectively better quality photo or at least a better (more pleasing) looking one, either of which I failed to see on GSMArena's image comparison chart.
And yes, If I had to choose, I would prefer slightly blurred edges over oversharpened ones. To be honest though, Mi 11 Ultra's daylight photos have sharp enough edges that look more than decent for me.. I wouldn't try to edit and add extra sharpening in post to them if I owned this phone.

Only some Raw output can be comparable but Xiaomi gives pro mode in photo and video on all lenses.
Judging by the compact form factor with no need of two devices with you, MI 11 ultra gets the easy victory

Well, I think there's a problem with the newest chip sets these days. I use S21 vanilla for my business number, and it ran hot if I use it continuously for around 30 minutes (light to moderate usage like WA, YT, or Spotify). And I also use iPhone 12 Pro Max for my private number, and whenever I use the camera for about 15 minutes, it's suddenly runs hot. Overheat seems to be the norm for the newest chip sets these days (Apple and Android).

Bork, 27 Apr 2021Thanks, I'm glad somebody else has eyes! The Mi 11 Ult... moreMi 10 Ultra used OmniVision sensor and as it seem it did way better than new Isocell sensor in Mi 11 Ultra, in pictures and video, had better details, dynamic range and even better night performance with smaller sensor. So far even Vivo X60 Pro+ does a lot better with older Isocell GN1 sensor. But still Mi 11 Ultra is on pre-release software and big improvements should come with MIUI 12.5
Anyway as sensors goes so far: Sony IMX > OmniVision > Samsung Isocell.

Bork, 27 Apr 2021Thanks, I'm glad somebody else has eyes! The Mi 11 Ult... moreXiaomi is just getting into flagship business photography and they don't have modus for where they want to be yet. They are inconsistent and rely more on sensor features of the output more than their own tweaks no matter what is the sensor inside. That's why there is a great difference in color as well as sharpness going from Mi10 to Mi11, there is no continuity when you upgrade from one to another. Color difference when switching from ultrawide to main sensor on Mi11 Ultra is inexcusable for a phone that considers itself camera experience flagship. But that is a dead giveaway how R&D is actually talent and time consuming while money to buy latest and greatest specs doesn't guarantee you anything nor they are a shortcut to achieve great things.
As of right now Xiaomi is sensor driven for output quality. They are not at the point yet where they can give cohesive experience no matter what the sensor like Apple, Samsung, Huawei and Sony do. These four companies have more experience and more time invested into a pipeline to bring improvements with new sensors yet retain the familiar experience when switching to new model so there are no surprises when it comes to contrast, color, exposure etc. In other words they drive and regulate sensors ability to their expectations. I'm not sure that is the case with Xiaomi just yet because that process takes time.
Mi11 Ultra lags in video a lot more than in photography. While they did great on video stabilization the price comes on the performance drop and loosing frames. Video also takes advantage to frame stacking feature of 888 but at the cost of rendering the scene completely non authentic as it happens. Here is the great example of it https://youtu.be/k1Fi4mKwotk?t=107 pay attention what he is saying, there is a harsh sunlight coming in from the right. Do you have a notion it's noon with harsh sunlight when looking at that video? No, it looks like afternoon sun. Then he shoots with ZV1 and you can clearly tell it's noon with super bright sunlight. So Mi 11 Ultra has rendered the scene completely artificial in order to save the highlight burn on the feet sculpture's toes while ZV1 lets it burn out but it renders the scene accurately.

Nick Tegrataker, 27 Apr 2021lol, I can only see Samsung killing all the colours in fine... moreSo having sharp pictures is a bad thing? Correct me if I'm wrong but the whole purpose of these insane high def displays is to provide crisp colorful images and it sounds like your preferring to have blurred edges for the sake of having less processing in devices that rely heavily on processing.
Am I wrong?
