I am loyal iPhone user since iPhone 3G, but now Android become much better and I would like to switch.
But I cant because no manufacture cant offer android phone with 3 year OS updates (like apple). I am still on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 dissociated me so I have waited for iPhone 5 which is fail again in my opinion.
Anyway I don't have any options, will stick with iPhone 5, even I think its to expensive

1. GB requires minimal hardware support but offers almost all the basic functions which an average people wanted. Internet surfing, mail checking, reading & editing office documents, enjoying audio/video etc. Not every person need the extra eye candy or advanced feature of ICS/JB. Thats why Galaxy Y or Galaxy Pocket models are still selling very well.
2. There are also a lot of local brands who prefers GB for their low end phones
Thats why number of phones running with GB is too high. I think GB earns the same popularity & trust like XP achieved over Vista & win7.

They did a good job with ICS updates but they promised Jellybean only to One X, One S and Sensation XE! That's ridiculous and stupid. Samsung will even make Jellybean for the lowly Galaxy Ace Plus!

GSMarena is right, Gingerbread sales aren't going down because of some low end phones that will never get an update. Seriously, I think every Android phone, regardless of the price range, deserves at least 1 major software update.

GB is great, and what GSM Arena calls "low end devices" are actually great devices that do everything one needs. No real need to "upgrade". Reminds me of the good old "Wintel" days.

iOS is iOS, like it or not, they have their user base which is loyal and will probably remain static or incrementally grow. The question now is whether Android will be able to retain their status Apple alternative, now that WP8 has made a loud launch campaign. If people start enjoying WP8 with its instant updates, it may then start to eat into Android's market share. The only thing preventing that at the moment is a lack of affordable phones from WP8, which is more medium to high end for now.

Apart from SGS2 & Note, non other getting ICS, now promising JB (let wait & see), i believe they would wait until 2013 & claim those a 2 year old device, there fore not viable to update, ask you to get loss & bought another new device fro them, remember Galaxy S case ? which merely end up with a pathetic "Value Pack" sigh...

This is the problem with Android, each new iteration seems to be getting smaller and smaller uptake. Seems that the bulk of Android users are using cheap smartphones and staying with them longer than average.
In the long run this is bad news for Android as they cannot push software forward with so many stuck on old tech.

Honestly, I would put the blame on OEM who release their variants of Android late, or just don't even release an updates which results in a majority of devices remain stuck on Gingerbread or later versions. Not everyone knows how to root their devices. I'll wait for the rumored Nexus devices.
