Google to cut even more jobs at Motorola Mobility

04 October, 2012
The company will spend $300 million on severance charges, and not $275 million, as initially expected.

...instead of making new models... That's a pity...

But what users like? their previous phone more tuned, with upgraded hw...something like apple does.
e.g. why not make some few same models with just hw upgrades: better display, higher ram, better processor? then also sw upgrade - with newer android.

two or three models are enough e.g.:
    razr ( 2 versions-larger display+ smaller display) - thin models
droid 5 (with keyboard - i have had droid 2 and droid 3 here in europe - great lasting phones!)
and some small resistant outdoor model (like defy+) with the same hw parameters as the two above - except for display resolution - and longer battery

and just updating hw in newer models and android version...

I am still watching news for new droid 5, gsm/world version with 1gb ram, battery, and perhaps display innovation.

J-Ro, 05 Oct 2012They do happen to make some of the toughest phones on the m... moreThey are well known for not updating thier phones and always being late to market with out of date O/S versions. They were still selling phones with Froyo months after Gingerbread was out and everyone else was on it. They have still not even managed to get most, if any of their phones to Ice Cream Sandwich, let alone Jellybean.

Anonymous, 05 Oct 2012Preisely what % of phones on the nmarket today are running MeeGo?Market share is not relevant for a platform's liveliness, 2 years ago Symbian had more then 50% market share and it was already dead. Market share is only relevant for the past, not the present or the future.

i red someone is arguing about motorolas design, well i think its a lot better than the crappy shiny platic and cheap silver finish japenese phones got, motorola phones have business design they remind of thinkpads computers in comparsions of pavillions laptops, anyone with a bit of style and good taste would prefer the design of a motorola on on those shiny japanese phones that look more like candies or toys instead of a smartphone

For me S0NY MOBILE is the best am0ng the list..their m0bile design are always in impressive look and unique dust, scratch and water resistant style.. whereas the other wasnt be like that..xloud,clear bass soround stereo, bravia engine and ofcourse exmor technology are those assets of their phones..samsung and apple are useless bcoz their previous phones and newly release phones have alm0st the same features..long live SONY.

This is just too bad. Motorola never did try to aggressively expand its market beyond the US like what they did years before. In other countries, the only brands that really mattered (or at least has a significant amount of visibility) is Samsung and Apple. That's it. Even if they have an impressive smartphone line-up it'll mean nothing if they can't create a strong enough demand overseas too.

As expected, Google is destroying what used to be my favorite cell phone maker. I'd rather use Windows than Android (if Symbian miraculously dies) just because of this.
