Just 12% of global iOS users and 4% of US ones have allowed app tracking since the iOS 14.5 rollout

The numbers are holding steady, but still spell out a grim future for targeted online ads.

Even if it's fully banned from App Store, users who desperately need it will use it as web page in browser and very small percentage of users would go with Android phone instead. And that would be it. I don't think Apple is losing any sleep over it.

Even though this is good idea for customers privacy, I am afraid it will create a rift between Apple and other companies.
I will not be surprised if Facebook will force Apple's hand by saying they will leave IOS all together. Something like Epic Games did (of course here was another thing, but just saying).

If anything, I w... moreSame as me, I have been browsing the web and using my apps without letting a single tracker report data to an advertising firm for over a year. I do fear that as those workarounds of sorts get wider usage, companies wise up to the plan and decide to obfuscate the requests (ie instead of reporting to www.ads.areevil.com they route it through a more legitimate-looking domain like www.redirect.actualappyouwanttouse.com.)

Ah, I'm so glad to see that people actually value their privacy when given the tools to protect it. Now to outlaw opt-out tracking altogether and apply the same principles as iOS 14.5 universally.
Advertising existed before big data and will survive throughout the push for greater privacy. They just need to be a little bit more relevant contextually (I.e. ads for phones/carriers on this website instead of simply serving me ads of things I bought recently... Unless you just block all tracking scripts with advanced tools, hehe)

First they track you but then they give you an option to opt out. Hehehe. Hypocrisy also has its limits.😂😂

Why do companies want to survive by sending ads based on what we do inside the app? They should think of other ways to be sustainable. Just a food for thought....

iOS is still awful as a hotspot.
                              - Shorter range
                              - Quicker to disconnect and long to reconnect
                              - Must have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on (so 4 toggles on)

SwiftKey is inferior on iOS than Android.
                              - Harder to select all and copy & paste
                              - Can't change size of keyboard
                              - Won't predict emojis

Love my iPhone 12 mini but it's become an iPod touch like my SE. Went back to my Essential Phone. Easier to type on and easier for tethering. Add how open Android is towards emulation and torrents. LG G5 and Google Pixel 3 remain my top 2 favorite phones ever. The 12 mini and SE 1 can only be 3rd and 4th.

Best thing one can do is getting rid of Facebook permanently.

Whether you are on Android or IOS, If you are using Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram, etc. one can already say goodbye to privacy.
