In fact, there never has been one in the first place. If Facebook Inc. doing that, there are tonnes of it with Cambridge Analytica being the most famous report. I really don't know why you want to back WhatsApp when pretty much everyone, including me, doesn't like it.

I left Facebook and WhatsApp two and half years back and switched to Twitter and Telegram and I never regret for it. I was trying to convenience my friends to switch but hardly anybody was interested. In last 3.4 months, many of them had switched to Telegram in fear of closing of WhatsApp.
When Facebook first announced this Privacy policy back in January 2021, majority of users were not happy with it and wanted to switch to some another app. But since majority of their contacts are on WhatsApp, nobody was ready to take a lead and everybody prefered to be follower. If other switches, I shall do the same.
Couple of months back, Indian Government had banned Tiktok and some chinese apps for the reason of national security. Unless, governments do the same this time for the reason of Privacy, nobody will leave WhatsApp so easily. If some countries ban WhatsApp, Facebook will be forced to cancel their policy. They cannot afford to loose 40 billion users.

Just use wechat instead. Much less compression for videos and photos and not much security concern

I suspect this may have also come from a machine translation. The German regulators are in fact responding based on a "fundamental understanding" of what the update intends to do.

Frankly speaking, only tech enthusiasts care about privacy. 99.99% of mainstream normies just don't bother. That is why I keep using Telegram instead of WhatsApp because I know first-hand that Telegram offers so much better experience than WhatsApp.
Speaking of spam messages, I got a lot of those on WhatsApp. Some are in a totally foreign language that I never heard of. Never experience such a thing when using Telegram at once.
