Apple iPad Pro 12.9 (2021) runs laps around the competition in Geekbench

The M1-powered tablet shows performance comparable to laptops with a 15W Intel or AMD processor.

Eventually this hit well with grey mass, there technology was perceived as fashion accessory with basic approach to use it. A dream for any random Joe or Kate.

actually, i kind of respect Apple for what they did. they created a brand which exploit human's ego uncanny desire to feel exceptional, special and superior. most people who are really keen and tech-savvy understands that Apple products, though not bad, are not really anything special, so Apple's magic doesn't really entice such people. but those people who don't even know you can text "msconfig" and clean startup so windows can run a little faster, those are the actual target of Apple, they fall an easy prey for all Apple advertisement. just convince people it's the best they can get, make it look exclusive, make it a thing of status, and people gonna buy it regardless of what it actually is.

not saying apple products are bad, most if them quite good. they are definitely overpriced outside us, but the point is i've seen very few sane people who use apple without that cult-follower "apple witnesses" mindframe.

but since you obviously belong to 1% of professionals here, feel free to show us what YOU can do with ipad pro M1, so others here in the pool area can see those professional heights of yours.

He was the PT Barnum of the 20th century. He's the one who turned the release of mundane electronic devices into over the top media events and trained a generation of Apple fanboys to eat this stuff up. Marketing is really Apple's greatest strength. The M1 is just the latest example.

botox, 13 May 2021M1 chips are stirring up the computer world but this could ... moreI agree somewhat. They need to offer more or value for money, not slim pickings of slim products. They should have offered 100watt on the mini and iMac, and 200watt in the pro models. Then people would get a sense that these low posted one only compare to other low powered ones, and not get hyped up about them being less than desktop processors. As is, Apple needs to 1/3rd it's prices and get back into the media locally installable competitive trade, or promote alternative stores. But, MS has moved this way too. The cheap windows laptops started demanding you buy from the store, and you had to convert over to avoid it. Not much, but a first inconvenient step. Now there on the rental scheme. A computer company should publish ready software free from bugs, and perfect, and leave us alone! If any bugs, Fix them, and leave us alone. Not be like sociopath child stalkers, constantly clamoring around into out business, getting off in it, like slimy creeps!

Asus Rog 5 was overhyped, One Plus 9 Pro was overhyped, not to mention Mi11 Ultra. The same goes for this iPad Pro 12.9". Is a good tablet (probably the best on the market right now), but it's not like it will do everything, everywhere, no matter what.
To be honest, I was more impressed by the display technology in the 12.9" iPad Pro. I am just curious how nobody talks about that. For me, that is even more of a game changer.

In single core, the M1 outperforms the i7 by 14%. And in multicore performance the Ryzen 5800U slightly outperforms the M1. I wouldn't call that "running laps around the competition" as GSMArena does in the article title. That's just pro Apple fanboyism.

And only the comparison to the i7 and the Ryzen 5800U are fair, because they are the only other real laptop CPUs (like the M1) in the tests. Comparing the M1 to the rest, which are phone CPUs, is bogus; they are a totally different class of CPU, designed for a different purpose.

What I take away from this is that all of the fanfare about the M1 is just overblown nonsense. It's a good processor. It is not that much ahead of the competition. Almost no one will notice the difference in any real world situation.

M1 chips are stirring up the computer world but this could be more of a firecracker and not a huge blow. Apple is hoping to convert regular PC and Android users to their own ecosystem and to some extent this may happen. This however won't do much. If other tech players don't follow the same path of designing such chipa the M1 is going to be a short lived event that is narrowly focused on the Apple users. Problem with such chips with multiple co-processors and accelerators is that they are designed for a very specific task and are absolutely impossible to support outside of it. Current chip technology is much more versatile. To me the M1 is nothing groundbreaking and others should totally ignore it because their business model is completely different. These things just don't work.

not only that, but third party developers like Adobe or Autodesk have yet to cater their ios products to match full-fledged desktop level.

and on top of that ipad pro 12.9 is just to heave and too big to use it as a tablet proper. you need magic keyboard which adds 300$ extra and it weights 700 gramms! that makes the whole kit weight 1,3 kg which is laptop territory.
so now i really question sanity of both Apple and its buyers who baducally waste their money on this "kit" with crippled functionality of ipados and a bigger, less comfortable footprint over macbook.

not being judgemental, it's just above my head.

The only way to showcase the real power of this chip is by emulating, let's say, android, and make it run better than qualcomm top end chip, or make them run same OS natively.
It's kinda hard to make comparison when the stuff is locked in Apple's basement, it's a good design but how good? I mean the entire process was streamlined from the hardware to the software, creating a straightforward system will be easier that way, whereas Intel and AMD must force their chip to be compatible on everything, creating a state where their chips were forced to have a bit of everything to allow compatibility, in contrast to apple where they just need to make part that fit the software design, producing a cleaner design.
