Kangal, 16 May 2021By the time this thing is manufactured, on-shelves, and sel... moreI'm sorry but you just dont get it. This is an Android compact phone. People just want that, no matter the cost. These are the people who will choose a Pixel 4a, Pixel 5 or the xperia 5. And now there is a 4th one. Which is clearly the best of them. 600 euro's for a ZenFone 8 compared to 640 euros of the Pixel 5 (in my country). That's not a bad price! Even compared to the S21, it's a good price.

Ok, chinese flagships are cheaper. But they don't make small ones. That's what it is all about here.

I would love to know when Asus expects to announce the third model in the ZenFone 8 lineup, there was rumored to be 3 devices if I'm not mistaken. A step up from the ZenFone 8 flip with a 120hz display, OIS, and wireless charging would make this my perfect device, maybe even a 12gb ram option or 512gb storage

Kangal, 16 May 2021By the time this thing is manufactured, on-shelves, and sel... moreI think you make some interesting points, but I think Asus is still on the money here. Even if they used a Snapdragon 780 they probably still wouldn't have sold the phone for less than $499. I think at $599 (hopefully) it's got a little staying power to make the proposition a little sweeter. The problem with them using a 780 is that some people just want a compact phone with the highest specs. By using a 780 it would put the phone closer to the Pixel 5 in some minds. Personally I could have taken a SD 690, SD 780, D1100 or D1200 as long as it still fell in the right price bracket. I'm totally comfortable with the SD 888 at this price. $550 with a SD 870 may have been an even better win. My biggest problem with top end specs is that unless you're a mobile gamer you're not really going to use it.

Zenphone 8 gets the heaviest promotion on GSMA, including undeserved praise of the camera, criticized by all other reviewers.

Happy that someone still making compact screen smartphones. 👍 Others are just converting the mobile phones into a tab.

The flip is always interesting but I worry for the durability of the flip mechanism.

I'd really only consider the Vanilla but the display is maybe too small for my taste.

Kangal, 16 May 2021By the time this thing is manufactured, on-shelves, and sel... moreYes, please tell us more about how large companies such as ASUS should do business. I bow down to your expertise and knowledge, sir.

By the time this thing is manufactured, on-shelves, and selling... that price difference is going to be negligible against the bigger brands. I mean discounts and sales are a common thing in the Android Phone Market, especially on established competitors that shipped devices months in advance.

So how could ASUS even compete in this luxury/flagship sector with worse Customer Service, lower Camera Quality, and slower Software Updates?? Simple answer is they can't. Hence, their best move should have been to target the High-end Category instead by using the Snapdragon 780G, and not using the expensive Snapdragon 888.

But what about the cheaper Chinese Competitors?
Easy, just offer something they lack in a clean package, that's not much expensive. I'll follow up this comment with another that explains the strategy they could have pursued.
