it's innovation, it need to be patented, no other phone can do this... i've try it with my nokia dumb phone, i couldn't get this purple effect.

uh, no this not something on every small camera.
after i read about this issue before, i tested my samsung galaxy 3 and did not get any purple distortion.
the only thing being distorted here is apple's lies to the consumers.
what is it with big companies and the truth?

This problem is due to shrinked camera size and saphire len. If apple does make 5s, this problem will still be there. This time, it will take a photographer to use iphone the right way. The acclaimed world most user friendly phone? Not a minor problem at all. It fail to meet it core value. Hope apple make iphone5s, ifan will have 2 year of suck camera.

If the fault is inherent in the design then I guess by definition that makes it normal for the phone in question, but that doesn't necessarily make it right or acceptable. This is premium kit we are talking about.
I'm not saying the problem can't be made to occur on the 4S or any other phone, but I have never experienced this problem on my 4S or even my old Galaxy S i900.
It's Apple's own fault for saturating their products with over the top hype and then charging extortionate prices on the promise that the customer will get a superior user experience.
If Apple feel us users are a little fussy then maybe they should adjust their pricing and/or marketing accordingly.

Iphone 4S was good but now they are saying it's NORMAL about the purple hase of death, imaps don't work. etc. So Apple's excuse is either it's your fault for not handling it right or that's normal in a crappy phone. Great Apple is really going potty. Suggestion is to get a refund from Apple and wait for the Iphone 5S.lol

Reception problems if the phone touches the skin, creaky body (check youtube), aluminium-body that gathers scratches like crazy (like my old N8), camera that can't be used if there's a lightsource closeby, worthless navigation-app outside the US, voice-actions are beta and not usable outside english/french/german/asian regions... The list is almost endless! I think it's great that people are starting to question Apple's strategy (buy cheap, sell expensive).

That's great customer support, if something is wrong just stop doing that hahaha, if you get purple haze just don't point at bright lights, very helpful Apple, Samsung FTW, pointing at the sun right now, no purple haze on my note
