The Kernel is the core module that drives literally everything in an Operating System from the IO, to the Graphics. Android IS Linux. An argument could be made for Chrome OS as it has modified the Linux kernel heavily and thus could be considered its own variant but that's a game of semantics. Android uses a (mostly) stock version of a Linux kernel. Therefore Android IS Linux. Graphical interfaces on top of a Kernel make them distributions or distros.

      See, this is the issue I have with Microsoft. They have great ideas very early, but they don't go full throttle and execute on these ideas. Then comes Apple with the same idea, and executes it better.

        I actually do think that Microsoft is using the 10X just as a mere testbed for Windows 10 Sun Valley update. Having said that though, I really find it a shame that the 10X had been canceled. I saw it running on the Lumia 950 XL and there was so much potential for the 10X to be a true desktop-grade mobile OS.

Chrome OS is more Linux than Android (it is actually based on an existing Linux distro, Gentoo Linux). Yet it still considered a browser-based OS than simply another distro of Linux (because everything the user did is basically in the browser/Chrome layer).

The article said that is a slimmed down Windows 10 version but that's not the case.
                              The OS is cancelled and I guess only the useful features are going to be transferred in Windows 10.
                              Personally I think it was a good move that it got canceled, the new OS would have flopped.

                                    They just want to create a lightweight, interactive and intuitive OS to complete with iPad and Chromebook. Because the main Windows is full of chunks of old technology and compatibly layers. But there problems.

                                    - People will not understand my OS has to limited functions and simplified. People just want more ‘features’ and ‘capability’ but they don’t really think about ‘ease of use’. Just like what happens now with iPad and Chromebook.
                                    - It’s the problem with ecosystems. (No powerful apps). Less developers want to make software for a toned down OS. And Microsoft limits opportunities for softwares growth in the system. Like what happened in Windows 8 RT or Windows Phone (Google don’t allow youtube app on WP). ( Or how people thinks iPad and Chromebook has no ‘truly pro’ apps.

                                      I am shocked as surely nobody expected this ...
