Better than the white washed out look of chinese phones and sometimes samsung phones. Google is best at skin tones and now it will get even better. Starting with Iphone Xs, people's face can look flat and lackint contrast because of the aggressive smart hdr

Google's color reproduction has problems with all(!) skin tones.
They had a very good color reproduction when the Nexus 5x was released (Google camera 3.x). But when the Pixel 1 was released, Google decided to make the images brighter, which led to too bright faces and less accurate skin tones. Over the years, Google also made its auto white balance much worse, so for example the Pixel 3a has much worse skin tones than the Nexus 5x with Google camera 3.x.
