Google's first foldable could have a disappearing under-display camera

20 May 2021
Google has patented an innovative way of hiding a camera under the screen.

foldable + under display

the crease, the immature udc, expensive too

Putting it at the top of the display is a waste. Much better middle/top so you can be seen to be actuslly looking at the people you're talking to.

Why photo is still visible even when camera is inactive (at the right)?

This and Samsung's sliding subdisplay patent solve the image quality problem. If the subdisplays aren't noticeable and the mechanisms prove reliable we will finally be rid of eyesore punch holes.

also with this prism method, does that mean we theoretically have a periscope front facing camera?

still not as secure as a pop up camera.

even the zte axon 20, still sees your face during use.
pop up cameras sacrifice ip rating, but for the sake of privacy protection, i'd prefer a pop up camera instead

the poco f2 pro and k30 pro was a perfect example of those.

              GOOD!
This is how, and ONLY how an underdisplay camera should work, moving parts or not, it should NOT be the stupid "see through display" type like the Axon 20 that both have poor quality and offer no privacy, even worse create a false sense of privacy as we forget the camera.
It should only be done with the camera being with both 100% and 0% mode, allowing a less expensive tech with normal quality and privacy for a true non-interrupted display.
Samsung had a similar idea :
              https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-under-display-camera-phone-1188611/

One of the BIG advantages of this type of design is that it can allow to use the main sensor both in the front and in the back, like my multiple lens, single sensor camera design :

"The first-gen under-display camera, which premiered in the ZTE Axon 20 offered severely compromised image quality."

Solely for bragging rights, they created some 1MP equivalent camera image quality, with fingerprint marks on the lens.

Anonymous, 20 May 2021With Google's past history, i wouldn't trust them... moreIt would only ne used for further surveillance. Like only 24x7 camera.
