    This article presents automated backups as problematic, yet my problem and what brought me here is that I'd enabled automatic backups for screenshots in the photos app on an Android 12 phone and they're nowhere to be found, even with a premium Google account, forcing me to save them individually and transfer them to my computer which is unnecessarily cumbersome. If anyone reading this figures out how to successfully have an Android 12 phone backup screenshots to Google Photos, I'd be grateful to learn how. Thanks!

      I've had about 100 useful screenshots. Then backed up everything to Google Drive. Later it has turned out that the screenshots are not backed up. Pissed off.

          That's weird... I'm on a Mi10Ultra with MiUI 12.5 (Android 11) and my screenshots already get saved in Pictures>Screenshots

Had to Setup a Google account temporarilyt witha free online number. After getting in, disabled all that Google Play store and other sh*t. Put them behind Netguard firewall so they can't connect to Internet.
            I am using Aptiode store to download apps on TV. Works great without all Google spying.

                Betting my Redmi Note 8 Pro won't even get Android 12 :( maybe time for an upgrade (and a move away from MIUI as well)

                    I'm more annoyed of the fact that my camera photos and screenshots are mixed together locally on my phone if I use google photos on my Xiaomi.

                              Google won't let go of the whole DCIM folder. The most logical approach is to give users the capability to select which folders they want to sync, but no, Google wants the whole DCIM folder whether users like it or not.

                                    I guess this only happens if you allow automatic upload to Google Photos. The same thing does happen when using Microsoft OneDrive.

In the past this wasn't an issue, but is now. So, your method isn't always an option. There are means to block Google connections afterwards though using Blokada or NextDNS...
