NvrOpnReply, 25 May 2021how strong enough harmonyOs can compete against android and... moreHarmonyOS is basically Android without Google and lets developers publish their apps just uploading those to AppGallery. Blackberry & Microsoft had totally different OS base and that is why also the developing was more time/money consuming. But only time will tell.

Theres a leak that Qualcomm demo the 4G SD888 before, will be used in P50 series. (Hence the Leica branding phone used by Qualcomm).

That means 5G version will be Kirin 9000, 4G SD 888. Looks like a way to control Kirin last stock. We'll see.

I just used Google Translate. I found it it the most simple and especially the most accurate one in translating texts.
Even when I had iPhones, I would still used Google Translate.

Is the same situation with Google Maps. No other map app can give me what Google Maps gives me. Because I don't need only location, but also transportation information (number of the bus/tram/trolleybus that passes through certain stations at precise hours; when I want to reach a certain area of the city).

I'll be waiting to see if Huawei really show that they develop HarmonyOS from the ground up like iOS, Windows Phone, and Sailfish OS. It would be nothing special if HarmonyOS is based on EMUI of which EMUI itself was based on AOSP.

"300 million devices" is a hollow statistic.they must mention app support first of all.otherwise, nobody will buy those "300 million devices".otherwise don't behave like a global brand, just stay in China.new OS is not a major update.how many apps does it support.full android app support would be an update.

I really miss the translation feature after changing to other brands. You just double touch the screen and hold to translate anything on screen (text and images). No need for screenshots or anything. As a foreigner living abroad this is an incredibly useful feature for daily life (especially when buying things online). On other phones I need to take a screenshot, then open a translation app like microsoft translate or Baidu translate, then open the image in the translation app and wait for the translation. If you need to translation a number of images this is very time-consuming and cumbersome. Hope other brands can add this type of feature.

Anonymous, 25 May 2021I think huawei HarmonyOS is going to be a gamechanger for itselfPeople need to start looking at Huawei's bigger picture. They can't came up with something brand new since the world doesn't trust them with anything. So they came up with something new but that looks and feel like Android. So people will easily migrate. After few years when they reached user's target, they just release a 8Gig software update with a whole lot of changes with new skins to show that all this was just a transition phase.

anyway, I miss huawei since now we are stuck with samsung and xiaomi.

But, I think they are making some wrong steps too. They are still making connections with GMS in their marketing and releases. Something like: "Look guys, you can still side load Google apps or install Google apps with some technique". I mean, if they want people to see them separately, they need to ditch every Google app from their phones and make their own apps (Huawei email, maps, translate, photos, etc.).
What's the reason to buy a Huawei device with Harmony OS if I will still use Google apps? Then I will just go and buy an Android phone with GMS.

Well, users are left with no choice than Android and iOS currently. If someone who doesn't want either Android or iOS, they have no options. It's hard to develop an OS from scratch and then there is the apps problem on a new OS.. That's why we are chained by Android and iOS. I want a new experience, but I don't want Android or iOS. We need new smartphone OS. Harmony OS seems like an Android replica, as far as the visuals have shown us.. I tried Sailfish OS a few years ago on a budget phone and I really miss that. Hoping for dual boot options in smartphones in near future. In fact, I feel the entire smartphone industry needs a reshuffle.
