Samsung you need to work on:
                1. Your Computational Photography Algorithms. Your photos can be more detailed, and the noise reduction can be much smoother. Don't smudge details, where unnecessary. Also, don't process photos immediately. Add a little sharpness and detail enhancement, after the photo is taken.
                2. Tweak the CFA design.
Hint: Bayer and repetitive square pixels cause aliasing and moire, and huge loss in detail (20-50%?). Also, the Bayer Pattern caused considerable light loss. You can't get rid of the colour arrangement, but you can make it disappear briefly and you can change the square, similar to your AMOLED but with a ... seemingly, non-repetitive pattern. That will increase both sensitivity and detail, and get rid of the colour fringing. Photos would look a Lot more detailed.
                3. Ensure the Tetracell /Quad Bayer doesn't create exact square pixels.
                4. Have a slightly more refined pre-burst mechanism for HDR. Keep a much higher Cache, and ensure that the background and other details are already being processed, well before the shutter is pressed. There will be a lot more detail to play around with.

Do you remember the 108mp sensor that debut on mid range phone 2 years back? way before, Samsung launched their 108mp sensor on their Galaxy flagship?

Xiaomi got their camera processing dialed in during that time.
Now it has surpassed everything on the market. Mi 11 Ultra is the best camera on the market. This same opinion is echoed by anyone who has used it.

I have Mi11 Ultra since the first day it released in China.
At the very beginning, camera is 'average' compare to Vivo X60Pro+ and Mate 40Pro(both CN version).

In night time it definitly show advantage of bigger sensor. More clear, more bright compare to Vivo X60Pro+, more correct color compare to Mate40 Pro and even brightter although Huawei use RYYB.

In day time it do have some optimize problem, color is not as attractive as Vivo X60Pro+(I think Vivo flagship have best color since X50Pro+),somehow too many sharpen. Telephoto len have some bug,not as clear as the one on Mi10Ultra although both of them use same telephoto hardware.

In some situation it cant beat X60 Pro+ and Mate40Pro.
I will say it is a good camera phone, but not the best as they claimed and as what I expected.

But after receiving DXO version camera update at 5th,May. It do improve a lot. Problem of over sharpen are solved, telephoto lens work well now.Color is better now although still not the best one.
Now I dont think it is lack optimize,it should be top3 camera phone this year

but xiaomi's photo processing(especially the corners which are soft and blurry ruin them) has seriously improved over the years.

the bokeh is insane on the mi 11 ultra, though if with gcam, then it really can match the quality of a premium compact camera.

at least mi 11 ultra does rule the point and shoot category in smartphones.

good that Sony and Omnivision aren't following Samsung's dumb Nona-Bayer stuff. First of all, who seriously shoots 108 MP pictures? Who wants to have pictures that are 30 MB instead of 3 MB? There isn't much gain anyway.
I prefer normal Bayer sensors. Less subpixels mean faster readout, better autofocus (look how good the Sony Xperia flagships can focus), better dynamic range, less processing for same result, less production costs (108 million pixels are more expensive to produce than 12)
I can see how 50 MP can be slightly better than 12 MP in tiny phone sensors, but 108 is overkill. also, Nona-Bayer sensors can't produce clean RGGB fusions, so that also means that the quality can't be real 108 MP.

                                        "what makes a great camera?"

Not vivid color. It should be realistic color.
