In regards to Xiaomi, it didn't make much sense to designate them as a military company.

On other hand, for Huawei it's a bit complex. Yes, there are laws both in USA and China that makes the companies to adhere to government requests so really neither side gets a point here.

For example:
Consider this, if Huawei networking equipment can be accessed by China and be used to spy on another countries citizen, why the blanket ban? For example, How does banning their smartphone block their networking equipment from spying on people.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Huawei. I think the better approach would have been to improve the local laws (and privacy laws) to prevent unauthorized access to networking equipment or anything that can compromise users information.

Blanket banning will not solve the issue at hand and it can make the situation worse as you have reduced competition (look at phone market) and potential revenue for your companies.

XIAOMI PHONES are not easily available in Canada. Initially there were a few Poco x3 nfc phones offered at a very reasonable price, from a US source on Amazon.ca. I bought one after using Samsung for years. It is a great phone for those of us unwilling to pay flagship prices. It is a fast growing company which is starting to give the major players a run for their money. The global version of this phone uses Google Play Store. I wish them well.
