The improved feature set will be courtesy of a custom chip dubbed the Sony V1.

I broke my incredibly tatty WM XM1s I've had some some years now doing that very thing. I've always been a bit reckless with them like lobbing them on the floor when I'm not using them and not ever trying to catch them when they're about to fall off my head, so they did well. It appears multiple uses in the rain finally finished them off....although not immediately as they were working for a short while and only broke after I tried to use them after charging a few days later.

I'm pretty excited for these if its true as that's a substantial increase in battery life and the rain resistance just makes them a lot more practical. I always preferred in ear earphones but those godawful lanyards on older models just meant they weren't anywhere near as practical as they could be and they still had the main disadvantage almost all wired earphones have which the potential for the connection between the earbud and the wire to sever rendering them useless.

I have high hopes for these although it might take me a while to get used to in-ear earphones again after using headphones for 3+ years now.

Some Asus? LG is dead. Sony is using integrated crap ... hard to get a decent sound without USB DAC.

            5$ wired earphone > 250$ wireless earphone

imparanoic, 28 May 2021Good to see that sony is still supporting ldacThey will never got rid of it, specially now that's implemented at a native level on Android.

Also, there is a whole new chip for voice processing (Also for call quality) and it's far better than XM3 ;-)

The usability has been fixed too. You'll see :)

Unless they fixed the issues with the WF-1000XM3, the xm4 is doomed to fail:
                          - sound shuttering and drop outs, random restarts
                          - trash quality for phone calls (they're useless pos)
                          - bulky size (buds & case)

Since almost nobody mentioned these issues, I get that you haven't actually used the xm3 to realize how crappy these are compared to airpods pro. Sure, the xm3 have a slight edge over the airpods pro in terms of anc and music quality, but are far worse in pretty much anything else. Sony would better get their things straight since they charge premium for a product which clearly isn't.

When these things get revealed on June 4th, I feel like these will come with the Xperia 1 and 5 Mark iii as a pre-order bonus and then they reveal the prices, release dates, and pre-order dates for the phones in Europe and the US. 8 days to go I guess.

Might very well be my first set of wireless earphones. 8 hours with ANC and 12 hours is impressive. Battery life was always holding me back from going wireless, but these look convincing. Xperia 1 III might also be my very first Sony phone as Samsung is dropping microSD support on flagships and doesn't even offer more internal storage in return. S21 Ultra feels like a downgrade compared to my Note 20 Ultra.
