Anonymous, 31 May 2021You cannot have sided finger scanner with curved screen. ... moreSide fingerprint reader is a price saving measure and people tolerate it on less expensive phones because they know they'll have a pay a bit more for the in-display fingerprint reader. If you are charging around $450+ for a phone then people expect it to have an in-display fingerprint reader.

look at this... https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=10806&idPhone2=10096&idPhone3=10712
you just need to buy what does not "cut" you from the experience you want...
for instance, it is okay if there is no 3.5mm audio port if you do not want it...
for "some" they prefer the flexibility and quality of having that port on a phone, i5 does not hold anyone back from using wireless anyway...
so, ye... "cutting corners" do exist for any phone out there...

Again, look at OnePlus flagship phone. They all cheaper than even old Xperia 1 II. And no cut corners.
I can get open box (returned) 256GB version of Galaxy S21 Ultra for $1000 in my country right now. Quite good price against Xperia 1 III which is not sold here and won't be available anywhere else for the next 3 month! Also I can get excellent OnePlus 9 Pro right now for at least $200 less than shipped "somewhere in September" Xperia.

You're throwing context out of the window - fingerprint technology has not innovated and all use the same principles done before. Only thing difference is the placement - for the cheaper camera sensor under the screen you'll lose some pixels.
