Huawei now accepts registrations for early access to the HarmonyOS update

01 June 2021
This happens through the My Huawei app and at least right now it is limited to users in China only (but that could change after tomorrow's event).

Nick Tegrataker, 01 Jun 2021The funniest part is that Huawei themselves confirmed long ... moreExactly, they will ditch android support until they reach a certain share in the market.Maybe 25-30%. The most important thing now is they need a smooth transition to grow up the end user base. For App perspective, the developers/owners don't need a new development team for HarmonyOS. Simplify, Seamless transition, grow user, save cost. The main objective in the first phase.

I'm happy for you guys for switching to your own innovation. It's time to even move from the Dollar dependency.
Sometimes it takes one slap in the face to open eyes.
      Anyway congratulations HUAWEI, VIVA

In the end depends on the developers.

blue.sun, 01 Jun 2021If they cut the android app support, they cut the system to... moreIn that case they will simply need to keep the compatibility layer until the developers start making native apps for HarmonyOS. If the number grows large enough (say a few million apps) then they can decide whether they will ditch Android app support or not. After all, the backward compatibility exists in order to keep the entire transition process as smooth as possible.

Even if only China adopted harmony os, the china market is vast plus I'm quite sure Huawei can retain good market share in other markets like India and Europe as long as they develop a good OS.

Well, one would think --- except Huwai is offering cash incentives BEYOND what they can earn in a given app store.... in essence, PAYING them directly for their contributions. Bear in mind... the Chinese cellphone market is bigger than it's three nearest competitors COMBINED.

Nah, I thing Huwai will do just fine --- as will their app contributors

Is anything known about this: how does the move to HarmonyOS affect the time span for which a device is supported? Would consumers get the promise that their devices will be supported much longer than with Android?
