Dimensity 900-powered Oppo runs Geekbench, tops Snapdragon 750G/765G results

We have to wait until both Realme and Honor launched their SD 778G-powered smartphones before we can get the benchmark score. I know that OS optimization plays an important factor not only for benchmark score but also for long term performance and battery life, but at least it can be a baseline for future smartphones with SD 778G chipset.

While technically true that they belong to different line-up within MTK, but keep the price point in mind as well. Just as xiaomi fans defend that 860 (It is somewhat justified due to the price point, otherwise, it's worse than other flagship chips also)

I think 800U, 820, and especially last gen 1000+ were on par or better than almost all SD phones found in their price bracket, not to mention the very good G90T, G95, etc. 1000+ was even better than 855+ in some instances, so I don't know why you are thinking about only the MTK820.
Also I can't be 100% certain regarding efficiency, but have you seen the battery endurance figures (GSMA) for 800U/G-series phones, it's way better than SD. Just look at Note 8 Pro, V21 5G, Realme 7, 8, 8 5G, X7, etc.
I think the 1000+ and now 1200 are excellent bang for buck chips, I'm personally looking to buy X7 Max (the build quality, 'plonked on screen' & lack of OIS are something I'm weighing my decision on but I might give in). If these chips were found in say $500-600 phones, then obviously the buzz around them would be lost, but because they are in the "flagship-killer" territory, you can't ignore them by saying that they lag behind their SD counterpart like SD870/888, etc.
Ofc there's the other side of the coin, where people (including myself) prefer the whole experience rather than just the "fastest SoC for the price", a prime example is the still astonishingly well-equipped (imo) Reno 2--GG6 & metal, subjectively attractive & unique back design, notch-free screen, 3.5mm HP Jack, mSD slot, proper triple camera w/ OIS on main, NO camera bump, USB 3.1 type-C, FM radio, respectable battery, par for mid-range 730G, clean-ish Colour OS. It just probably needs a spec bump, a HRR screen and dual speakers, and it'll be awesome. I was contemplating buying this as well, but the 730G would be more of a side-grade from my SD820.
All these are the reason people (incl me) complain about the direction the Reno line-up has gone in.

Anyone should stop thinking others are brainless when they choose something else.
I use my brain and don't want any Snapdragon. Here are some reasons :
I don't care about 2 or 3 more FPS in a couple of games...or in benchmarks.
I don't want an obsolete video decoder like the one in any Qualcomm's!
900, 1000+, 1100, 1200 decode AV1...even SD888 can't.
All streaming plateforms use or will use this codec : Youtube, Netflix, Disney, Apple...
As in my country, I won't get mmwave until years, I prefer carrier aggregation instead...870 doesn't support.
Some buy benchmarks, some buy brands, I buy features I'm interrested in...

Dimensity 1100 is going against Snapdragon 780 and dimensity 900 will go against SD 750g. Compare with cost. Snapdragon 888 is utter garbage with new X1 core. Too unstable. Anyone with brain will choose 870 for now.

Notice how more and more manufacturers have actual dimensity 900 smartphones lined up?
Meanwhile qualcomm is still gonna overcharge and then manufacturers wont be using the 780 that much until 2022
I bet in 2022 we are gonna see many 765 mid rangers as then the price is finally reasonable enough for oems to by and use
No wonder we keep seeing 2 year old 720

Dimensity 1100 is going against SD870, in which it still gets outperformed overall.
Pretty sure the only SoC from MediaTek that can beat its Snapdragon counterpart is the Dimensity 820 5G, which is better than the SD765/768G, but efficiency actually still goes to Qualcomm.
