Xu Shuang, 11 Jun 2021Nope, it's not android. It can run the same apps as Op... moreIt's Android. I'm not sure how much Huawei is paying you to promote their deceptive marketing, but—at least the version of HarmonyOS that's on smartphones—is still Android.
It literally has the Android easter egg app. You don’t accidentally include an OS easter egg unless you’re literally using the same underlying OS. https://www.androidauthority.com/harmony-os-2-android-1231446/

https://www.theverge.com/2021/6/2/22463666/huawei-matepad-pro-harmonyos-tablet-features-specs
I understand that "HarmonyOS" refers to a set of software OSes, which just means that they're using "HarmonyOS" as a branding term to refer to multiple types of OS—BUT, the ones that run on their smartphones and tablets ARE indisputably based on Android. Yeah, the version of HarmonyOS running on TVs or smartwatches may not be Android. But this post is about smartphones, and the smartphone version of HarmonyOS is an Android fork, period, end of story.
There's NOTHING wrong with that—but it's deceptive for Huawei to lie about it and act like they invented something that is totally compatible with Android overnight, instead of just admitting they're wanting to rebrand their software via, in part, an Android fork.
And lol @ HarmonyOS will survive the future, other OSes won't. What?? This is literally just marketing. Just because they call multiple OSes that are unrelated to each other "HarmonyOS" in no way makes this future proof, nor does it mean other less connected OSes are at a disadvantage. Android powers a lot of things beyond smartphones. iOS powers a lot of things beyond iPhones.

I don't care that Huawei forked Android—EVERYONE forks Android. I care that Huawei lied about it, and the Huawei fanboys/paid bots are rushing to their defense. Since when is holding corporations responsible for truth in advertising a bad thing?? How much are they paying these other commenters to staunchly defend some random company by saying that it's not based on Android?

TestTest, 11 Jun 2021Man, you are boring with all the same comments every day.
... moreI didn't mention that article. Take a look at these modern ones and the Wikipedia page about HarmonyOS, which describes it as a fork of Android:

Huawei has tried to basically say that HarmonyOS *in general* isn't identical to Android, which just means that they're using "HarmonyOS" as a branding term to refer to multiple types of OS—BUT, the ones that run on their smartphones and tablets ARE indisputably based on Android. Yeah, the version of HarmonyOS running on TVs or smartwatches may not be Android. But this post is about smartphones, and the smartphone version of HarmonyOS is an Android fork, period, end of story.

SpiritWolf, 11 Jun 2021Do your research and stop spreading nonsense. Literally.I have done my research. It literally has the Android easter egg app. You don’t accidentally include an OS easter egg unless you’re literally using the same underlying OS. https://www.androidauthority.com/harmony-os-2-android-1231446/
Just read the Wikipedia page—it even describes this as an Android fork. I don't know why people are so upset about Huawei's deceptive marketing practices being called out. I think it's GREAT that they're modifying Android to make their own fork that works in their view better than what they were using before. I think it's NOT GREAT that they've said "it's not Android" when it quite literally is.

hehe, 10 Jun 2021Why are you spamming this post? We get it you think Harmony... moreIt literally has the Android easter egg app. You don’t accidentally include an OS easter egg unless you’re literally using the same underlying OS. https://www.androidauthority.com/harmony-os-2-android-1231446/ I’m not saying it *can’t* develop into something that diverges from Android down the road—but speculation about what it may or may not become doesn’t mean it still isn’t just an Android fork today. It’s “natively compatible” because it’s in fact AOSP with lots of modifications. I agree that it would be stupid to launch a brand new OS—I’m just saying it’s also stupid to then lie about it and act like this is a totally new OS when it’s literally not. I am literally only getting after them for their awful and deceptive marketing, which I give any company crap about. It’s an “alternative” to Android in the same way that Samsung Galaxy phones are an alternative to Google Pixel phones.

Slicknote , 11 Jun 2021Great. I can't wait for this update 😀I most warn you, if this messes with GMS compatibility some apps might stop working without google serves. If it uses their cloud storage, their account system or more its likely to bug or flat out refuse to launch... Many games suffers from this severely!

S21 Ultra beat... mores21 ultra has better battery than p40 pro and bigger refresh rate, other than that, can't really see much that you will notice in every day usage. Don't get me wrong, is a good phone but for the price they are asking for it doesn't worth it, is not 20% more expensive than a p40 pro, is over 100% more expensive and does like 5% more than it while still losing the camera game to an 1 year old phone and camera is like the main selling point to most phones these days.So i'm expecting the s22 ultra to be on par with a p40 pro regarding the camera which is disappointing and bothers me what happened to huawei . My next phone will probably be a samsung or xiaomi
