I mean compare it now side by side it's completely night and day. That said, still not enough of a proposition on the bread and butter (performance + capabilities) aspects to really command that high of a RRP.

Bangin' design I'd give 'em that but the rest... well let's say that in the end it's about that real world usage. A wait and see game... not sure how many Japanese are really willing to drop that kind of dough though in this still pandemic economy and even if they're uber rich, I highly doubt that they'd get out of their iPhone comfort zone. This phone is a whopping JPY60k higher than a 12 Pro Max ffs? They can cut the crap about the branding + cam module, like I've said wait and see about that photo + video capabilities. If it ends up barely 10% over the standard par then rofl...

wow this has a Nokia Lumia 1020 vibe

At 1700 Dollars it is way too expensive, you better buy the Sharp Aquos R6 then, which will be more cheaper than this one. This one only has double internal storage, that's all(specs-wise).

You are saying that the new sensor is the same size as the camera bump? Or do you believe the sensor is smaller than the camera bump? I'll stand my ground and say the sensor is still tiny against the hole made in the phone for the camera parts.

Anonymous, 17 Jun 2021All right people, time to use gcam port on this big boi :) ... moreSure, Gcam will probably produce photos with much better image quality than the stock camera app will ever do, whether you shoot it in JPEG or RAW.
I still haven't lost all the hopes for the stock camera processing, though. While I didn't like Aquos R6's rather crude JPEG processing, the official samples I've seen have been all shot using the pre-release software and things should improve a lot through a few firmware updates.

AnonD-940827, 17 Jun 2021Another one who needs to wear glasses. The sensor is tiny a... moreThe camera bump on Aquos R6 has roughly the same height as the main camera module, while its width barely covers the entire camera island (i.e. main, ToF, Laser and flash included). The size of the bump on that phone is totally justified.

This Leitz phone has a circular camera bump that covers the larger portion of the phone's back panel because it's there to remind people of a dedicated camera rather than a smartphone (much like how Nokia 1020/Mate 30 Pro had a similarly sized and shaped bump). But there's no way one could ever claim it has a " tiny sensor in it", because it simply doesn't.
