Nokia, has ALWAYS charged more for less.
They were competing as long as they were controlling the market and as long as the Asian firmes were limited to their own market.
Half of the things that are considered in Europe as innovations, were in use from firms like NEC and Samsung, years before Nokia adopted them.
Patents means no innovation, as Apple has demonstrated, just political influence and power.
Nokia 920, will be nothing when Sony, LG and the rest will be shipping cheaper, quad core Kraits, with 2GB RAM and adreno 320 CPUs.
Are you forgetting the fact that Nokia has lost the war, right after the Asian firms started to sale in the broad world actual smartphones and not Symbian (made by Ericssson) gimmicks?
It took Nokia almost 2 years to come up with a line of touchscreen smartphones, that were heavily outadted by the global smartphone market.
The only thing that kept them from bankrupt, was the artificially hyped up brand name and the excessive profits they have made by exploiting their deluded fanboys.
Nokia was never able to compete on the same terms with Asian companies, esp in the smartphone market.
Unfortunately for them, it still is a smartphone era and a highly competitive one.
They have decided to make some exclusive deals with MS, so they can at least maintain the upper hand, by default, in a certain OS inviroment.
This is the only choice they ever had, they could never enter a specs/price war with Sony, LG, Samsung and HTC.
The leadership knows that better than anyone and they have taken far too many undeserved slack for making the choice to compete in a market with their terms, rather than competing in an open market, where the hardware specs/price ratio is the ultimate criteria and not where their strong point as a company always was (marketing, patent control, press hype, corporal agreemeants, soft development, multinational dealings etc)

I think nokia should use variety of o.s on its flagships, just like what samsung does, they can still keep their wp o.s at the same time venture with androids.. there's nothing wrong in using couple of OS.. that could keep them in the game..

Nokia Engineer, 19 Oct 2012You sir have no idea what you are talking about. I will not... moreAll the details you stated are all the reasons I really want nokia to survive. They do innovate. Always have. (although the high megapixel camera is almost redundant. the megapixel war is over and when the test images are actually taken on a proper dslr, well, that was poor form) But, i really want nokia to do well. But they need to do what they are good at. Make great hardware, let someone else develop the software, as for the last few years, they have been off the pace. I want it to survive, but if this current trend follows, it wont. Dont conform to just android. Develop for both android and WP. Other manufacturers (HTC SAMSUNG) both do this. And fair enough, samsung doesnt always innovate with new tech, but they take existing tech, and make it amazing... Has to be said, they do well at improving already out there technology in fairness, and that cant be denied. Why cant we all just live in harmony. so many angry people here. All ive said is, If nokia doesnt cahnge soon, they will go under, not nokia are crap!!! im not hating... I love all

Does anyone think its weird that GSMarena still putting "Nokia" on the top of the list although Samsung deserve it fair and square?
It should be like this:
1-Samsung
2-Apple
3-HTC
4-Sony
5-Motorola
6-ASUS
...etc
Because Nokia is not Number 1 anymore and for long time.
This news proves it and many other news just check Nokia news here in GSMarena see how many times they loss profits and cut jobs and beg and fake.

Nokia really does not have ... moreYou sir have no idea what you are talking about. I will not make a fool of you, I will just give you fact.
- Nokia was the first to introduce a Camera on a mobile Phone ( 7650 )
-Nokia holds the most patents relating to the cutting-edge 4G/LTE technology ( google that )
-Nokia was the first to introduce a 41Mpix Camera with optical zoom on a smartphone.
-Nokia currently holds the second largest portfolio of US patents, behind only new strategic partner Microsoft
-Nokia has a subdivision previously called Navteq that provides maps competeting giant Google
-Nokia was the first to introduce a phone with wireless charging to the market ( other vendors failed to sustain the average charging power / min )
-Nokia was one of the key developers of GSM
-The world's first commercial GSM call was made on 1 July 1991 in Helsinki, Finland over a Nokia-supplied network
And the list is endless.... Now tell me what Samsung did ? Care to find me one thing Samsung innovate in the telecom World ? Or maybe it's just mass producing hardware with Open source OS from google and copycat design aka S2 ? The reason why S3 is not that expensive is that because it's made from cheap material, pentile screen and free OS. Got it ?

I'm so happy to hear this news. I was deeply hurt by Nokia killing the N9. More disappointing was that Nokia didn't kill clunky Symbian. Even more disappointing was that Nokia slept with Microsoft!

There is a misconception here.
Nokia really does not have the option to adopt Android.
Why? Because they would never be able to compete with the other companies directly.
Their products were always inferior to the specs/price ratio and they were always coming second at innovations.
How could they compete with Samsung, offering a S3 beast anywhere close to its specs and price range?
And why would anyone pay the double premioum price for their products just to have the same specs, prolly even worse and the same OS/capabilities?
Offering a different OS, is the only choice for them, in order to avoid direct competition that puts them in disadvantage.
The best WP8 phones that are coming are not Nokia made, Nokia is bound to lose even the fight on their turf, let alone enter in competition in the open Android world...

AnonD-49463, 19 Oct 2012The old trumpet of puremotion and pureview will always be t... moreDont mind, but If You keep waiting for Win8 and fantasize to capture the market, i'm sure the competition will leave you far behind.
WP7 has the similar anticipations to capture marketshare and sales, so is 7.5 which was supposed to be a major release. but the stats prove otherwise.
However, nokia / MS should work on their strategies, trust me competition is way ahead than both of them. be it hardware/software, features, sales etc
I have no intention to discourage or criticize your liking towards nokia or Win os, in fact i was an avid fan of WinMo and thats how i ended up with XDA guys.
