Like if Sony launched all their lineup on January 1st 2011 (which they haven't, most were launched mid-year and the Arc S is barely over a year since it was released in September 2011).
At the same time Samsung has put their act together and their last year Galaxy SII is already running JB, so how does that leave Sony and their last year flagship?

    2) When you buy a computer do you even put to question the ability to upgrade it's OS in the future? We are not in the dark ages, manufacturers no longer have to do a new OS for every single phone.
All the hard work here is made by Google, the manufacturers only have to provide the drivers and adjustments to make it work on their devices.
It's funny how Android devices are taught to replace plain old computers, yet here we are excusing a major company how it is such a "high demand" to upgrade their phones from Android 4.0->4.1. Laughable! Pitiful!

What they should do is release updated vanilla versions of Android to the older phones and keep their customized timescape versions just for the latest models. It would be a win-win for everyone.

An ordinary customer that just wants a smartphone/phablet that can perform phone calls, msgs, browse, camera and the word "latest" being endorsed to them without worrying how hefty its price is. I know alot of people who bought devices that way. Honestly, its just us, who cares so much about updates, innovations of a certain device.

So Sammy didnt release too many smartphones eh? The problem with Sony is, they lack staffs in developers (or they're just too lazy!).

First to have the latest OS is the newest flagship. I mean, why should they hold the update for S3 until the Note2 becomes available? Business, right? Thats how Sony also provides update. However, they're just TOO LATE!

Kudos to Sammy for releasing faster updates. :)

Sony's R&D should expand to cater what the customers want. If Sony continues this kind of bad customer service, 2013 phones will not sell well. Look at Nokia's. Samsung is probably laughing at Sony right now.

Synonymous, 21 Oct 2012There's a reason why Sony will delay the update of JB. And ... moreThat's the biggest load i've ever read, sorry.

S3 and Note2 are both flagships aimed at diff customer.

This is Sony's fault for releasing too many phones.

Synonymous, 21 Oct 2012There's a reason why Sony will delay the update of JB. And ... moreYou have only proven the original point which said that Sony is so far off the pace that by the time they release JB the next version of Android will be just around the corner or already released.

You can twist around this all you want, the fact remains that no other Android manufacturer "enjoys" being that far behind (one significant version of the OS to be precise) and, just like you've pointed out, Samsung already has JB on their 2012 and 2011 flagships (not promised, *actually delivered*).

Being that far behind is not just "marketing strategy", it is a clear indicator just how bad a company is coping with times. Their track record shows the full story, they were delivering GB when it was the time of ICS and are still delivering ICS when it's already the time of JB.

Really, how far can you spin this?

It has become a fact that, in a few months time, they will be struck by the same drama at the time of release of KLP (the next version of Android). That is just how Sony has proven to be operating, that is their MO.

In fact, Sony has been so far off the pace that by the time they finally deliver the JB update KLP will either be just around the corner or already released.

Guys, dont worry about 2012 devices. There's nothing on the blog that says all 2012 devices not on the list will be stuck on ICS as well. Chances are high that the Xperia Neo L, SL, Sola and U will have an update too.

Its only the 2011 devices (confirmed) that will not be updated anymore to JB. But according to the blog, "We will however, continue to support all these products with firmware maintenance releases." I hope it will fix the buggy ICS update, specially on the Arc S.

AnonD-3367, 21 Oct 2012No they arent. This is the 4th time Sony screw over their f... moreThere's a reason why Sony will delay the update of JB. And its not just Sony but most company that uses Android OS. The first product to have a taste of JB (latest Android OS for now) is their new flagship.

I know Sony can release an update to JB in late 2012 but they will not release it until their new flagship in 2013 (most probably on mid Q1) will be available. That's how marketing goes on Android. Look at Sammy, they didnt provide JB update of S3 until the Note2 was available. Makes sense right?

If you still dont get it, here's my point. If someone (who doesnt care about the price) will buy Sammy product, a salesperson will approach him and say,
"Sir, we have the Note2. Its the latest device of Samsung. It also has the latest Android OS unlike the S3." That person would probably buy the "latest" one and cost much higher than S3.

The problem with Sony is, they wouldn't update there current flagship until 2013 flagship arrives. That suck knowing Xperia T/TX arrived Q4 of 2012 and JB was way older than T/TX!

This is the 4th time Sony screw over their fans with updates this year. 1 Was when they released new phones with Android2.3. Number 2 was when they updated their 2011 phones 1st to ICS and the update was buggy as hell. 3 Was when they cancelled ICS for their most expensive 2011 phone, the Xperia PLAY and now number 4, delaying an update that will be way out of date when it eventually arrives. They've been rubbish with their updates and hardware, they dont deserve any excuses.

COME ON Sony. I know the Xperia 2011 have only 1GB internal memory and that your beautiful ui skin takes lots of it, but couldn't you just make the skin bit lighter with less animations and just a tiny amount less eye candy. It would prippably quarantee that the Android 4.1 would have enough space to run. I'm shure that All of the persons who bought your 2011 line would like to get a Android 4.1 version even at the expence of some ui eye candy. I bought this Xperia Mini Pro phone just 2 months ago thinking that a good device like this would be updated to 4.1
