Anonymous, 24 Jun 2021Whar basis you think it would be better than most? You are... moreIt shouldn't require the full face to begin with.
Partial face should also work and only give access to less secure apps (so, no bank apps without the full face), half the face with 3D face recognition is already much more secure than optical underdisplay FPS.

The only good option is fingerprint scanner AND 3D face recognition, allowing each user to choose which one he want, or to combine both for additional security.

Anonymous, 24 Jun 2021So secure that someone can put the device in your face and ... moreOr grab it from your hand after you unlocked it with your fingerprint/pattern/pin/password, and have it easily, too.
3D face recognition is the hardest method to fool, you need to make a 3D scan of someone face in order to do that, only ultrasonic FPS who read both the epidermal and dermal layers of skin have a chance to compete, and even there the dermal layer is almost the same as the epidermal one.

Some VERY SIMPLE safeties would make the "face and run" method unable to work, like detecting with the accelerometers (who are already in use anyway for the lift & unlock) if there are abnormal movements, or checking again a bit latter.

It isn't because the software side implementation isn't good that the tech itself is bad.

Their CEO and board of directors are laughing their way to the bank while iPhone users struggling to run any heavy game beyond 5 minutes without overheating and thermal throttling. But that is to expected from loser ecosystem like iOS. Android has left them in dust.

You are assuming that because despite the fact that you are getting it 4-5 years late,it won't be any better. Always getting things late.

IPhone users kept discarding the importance of under the display or side mounted fingerprint scanners, as they thought face ID is a better implementation.
Their bubble was burst during the pandemic with everyone getting frustrated, not being able to unlock with mask on, meanwhile fingerprint scanners worked perfectly with mask on.

Now finally Apple will switch to UD fingerprint scanners as well as there is no scope for innovation inside the Apple ecosystem. They are busy milking profits and ignoring the demands of their userbase

Anonymous, 24 Jun 2021There's a reason why 1.2B people bought android in 2020Yeah, the only reason is that Android is "free" and only readily available OS so everyone just shoves that onto their devices. It's not about it being superior, it's about it being the only option lol. Other option being developing their own solution fro scratch which costs billions. Meanwhile Apple develops its own OS entirely from ground up and doesn't license it to anyone. It's why it doesn't have such ridiculous numbers. Also Apple only offers their software on their devices which are all generally higher end types. Android dominates market share on cheap devices like 30€ TV boxes and 100€ smartphones. The 1500€ devices are in minority yet all the rabid Android fanboys want to make everyone believe those 1,2 billion devices consist entirely of flagship smartphones. It doesn't work that way, meaning that 1,2 billion number means pretty much nothing. It's just big because a lot of crap runs Android. That's all.

Anonymous, 24 Jun 2021Are you talking about resale value of a used iPhone or the ... moreThey are always connected. If retail price of new unit drops like a bear off a cliff, then used units will depreciate much quicker as well. If retail prices remain relatively high, so will used units. Then it's down to how worn/damaged they are. If you always used cases and screen protectors and battery is still in good condition, you can sell it pretty high. Not to mention trading it in. When I tried to trade in any Android phone, I was always offered such shockingly low numbers I always decided to just keep them as backup or to hand it down to close relatives. I rather give it away to a relative for nothing than give it away to a store for 20€. For iPhones, it's much much higher number to begin with.
