And that’s why Apple is built different.

But is it really cheating? What's the point in giving some light load or background apps full throttle power of the X1 core which is by far the most power hungry? Or limiting some social network app that can't possibly ever need all the full grunt from the chipset (and which are all listed as ones that are throttled)? Just so it clocks to stupid speeds and eats battery faster? I'd be more interested in seeing if full power was given to benchmarks (why would one limit benchmarks?!) and lets say games or apps that actually require full raw compute power. If that was in fact the case, then it's actually real optimization and not cheating. Which I'd very much welcome more than just dumb task killers that Chinese vendors obsess over so much in general and which you can't turn off in most cases, just disable and hope they're really off (which usually isn't the case).
I'd say this has the same issue as Apple's "battery gate" drama. It is done with good intentions, but is misinterpreted because of bad communication between company and users. If OnePlus told users they do such optimizations to improve battery life and still give good performance where it matters and maybe even a toggle to turn this off entirely, then there would be no problem. Instead, it came out like they are cheating.

I won't call it cheating though I mean it recognize the app it's about to run and gives it the performance required to run it efficiently. In other words its not running in full power all the time so to me it's smart thinking not cheating

Again? One+ really knows how to cheat.
Maybe they should change their motto to "NEVER THROTTLE"

Too be fair Geekbench isn't accurate as it doesn't indicate daily performance. It only indicates maximum performance which isn't always accurate. I don't trust these performance tables. I use the phone myself to see what the performance is like. Don't use things like Geekbench they shouldn't be trusted.

"In essence, the OxygenOS analyzes the apps it will more often than not limit the performance in what we assume is a bid to extend battery life"
Not to defend OnePlus here, but this is in fact exactly the opposite of Anandtech reported in their article. It uses blacklisting method to limit the performance of the device in a certain app, which means more often than not the performance will NOT be reduced but only in a handful of extremely popular apps, as opposed to whitelisting that many other companies have used in the past. You guys need to read the source article more properly next time.
Nonetheless, it's a suspicious move by OnePlus and I really hope they will give their users a proper explanation of the matter (as well as an update to get rid of this weird performance limiter).

All chinese brands got caught doing this with antutu.
Now geekbench too?

Before it was Realme, now another BBK company zeez. But i don't mind though, in many speed tests almost all flagship chipset phones have the same speed and only 1% difference. I don't care about benchmarks, since no one is gonna do it aside from testing the limits of the phones or enjoying the graphics show.
