They can destroy this piece of shit.

Anonymous, 18 Jul 2021In my opinion, it's stupid to buy this console to main... moreFor the people who purchase it’s not stupid at all. Let’s see (just from top of my head):

1.) PC games are cheaper and have more regular discounts.
2.) Online gaming is free, instead of having to pay monthly subscription.
3.) Store(s) actually works, unlike the ridiculous lagging hell that is the Nintendo e-store.
      4.) Ability to install mods.
5.) Better range of both AAA and indie games.
6.) Can connect to any brand of gaming controllers via BT to play both single & co-op.
7.) Can run emulators to play older PS, Xbox & Nintendo games.
      8.) Can install Windows.
9.) Can connect to TV or Monitor to be used as a PC.
10.) Can install flick stick to take advantage of gyro for FPS games.
11.) Back buttons and track pad for wider range of input.
      12.) Mouse support.
13.) More games will support AMD FidelityFX
      14.) Full sized thumb stick

      Etc.

Basically, for $50 more than Switch, the Deck basic model (which is expandable with memory card) has not only much more power, but can do everything that the Switch can do and a lot more. It’s bulky I agree, but it’s far from a stupid purchase for the targeted audience.

Will it play all steam games??? Games like Tekken 7 too?

Hemedans, 18 Jul 2021can you play wii u, wii, gamecube, ps2 etc in your switch? ... moreMost Wii U games are ported to the Switch. So yes, you can play most Wii U games on the Switch; enhanced versions at that. Also, can you play Switch games on this console? It goes both ways. As for Wii and GameCube games, AFAIK, you can play them on your phone. All of this is beside the point, though. My point is that if I buy this console, I'll mainly use it to play demanding games, and if the battery life is only 2 hours when I play a demanding game, it will be barely usable and greatly affect my enjoyment. I want the next version of the Steam Deck to last at least 3 hours when I play a demanding game. I don't think that I ask for too much. Don't you want this console to have a longer battery life?

If I don't have any handheld console and want to play 2D games on the go, I'll buy a Switch Lite. It's much lighter and much cheaper. If I want a big screen, I'll buy a Switch OLED. It's still lighter and cheaper than this console, and it has an OLED screen as a bonus.

Anonymous, 18 Jul 2021On the other hand, the minimum battery life of the new mode... morelot of people will get this for those 2d games, as of now no stable ps2 and switch emulator for android, no Wii u (Cemu), no ps3 and xbox360 emulators for android and other console. but steam deck? theoretically it can play majority of them, i know lot of people in emulation communities who reserved this,

steam deck is versatile, it can scatter to lot of needs, its not just high end PC gaming needs.

Anonymous, 18 Jul 2021Quad-core CPUs are standard a long time ago. The Switch use... morefirst this is 8 thread cpu not just quad core, and its a bit amateurish to just compare core count of two devices without taking in to consideration things like architecture, core frequency etc.

-switch has 0.5 TF gpu when docked, and it throttle to 1/3 of its power when used as handheld and Steam deck has more than 2TF (1.6TF fp32), you can see huge gape there, steam deck may be 10 times faster or more in handheld mode. for comparison gt 1030 has around 1.7 TF, Steam deck can perform level of gt 1030

-steam deck run zen 2 cores 2.4ghz to 3.5ghz, 4c/8T from zen 2 is ryzen 3 3100, but it run 3.6ghz to 3.9ghz, for the sake of discussion lets assume it only run at 2.4ghz so we will expect around 2/3 of ryzen 3100 power. ryzen 3100 is equivalent of sd 888 (atleast in geekbench) so roughly we expect sd 865 to sd 888 kind of power from steam deck, for comparison switch is equivalent of sd 835.

and my comment i didnt compare it to switch or mobile but whole pc industry, if today am building budget gaming pc with ryzen 3100 and gt 1030 it would cost you more than $500, if i buy laptop with ryzen 5 4000 series or any intel quadcore with entry level Nvidia it will cost you more than $400.

so point here you can buy steam deck for office use, media consumption, home use, budget gaming etc because its cheaper than anything available in market.

The maximum is 9 hours. You can play Breath of the Wild for about 5.5 hours. It'll be silly to buy this console to mainly play basic 2D games because those games are also available on the Switch, and the Switch is cheaper and comes with a dock. If you buy this console, you should mainly use it to play demanding games, which according to the article, the battery life can be as low as 2 hours. I don't understand why you are fervently defending the poor battery life.

The play time of 4 to 5 hours are quite standard for handheld consoles. 3 hours is mediocre. Battery life is one of the most important aspects of a handheld console. The article clearly says that the battery life can be as low as 2 hours for demanding games. Did you even read the article? How is it my agenda?

So its up to you to get 2 hours or 8 hours, Valve gave us estimation.

There is no even single review online, for you to say 2 hours means you have your own agenda.

When I used a handheld console, I played a game for 4 to 5 hours often. The minimum should be 3 hours, and even that won't be quite satisfactory. 2 hours is very bad. If you only play casual games, you may think that 2 hours is long, but it's not the case for big games.

This is way too heavy for portable use, nobody will ever play this handheld for more than 15-20 mins. Nintendo switch is already much lighter than this, and yet polls showed majority of their users ended up playing it docked thats why they made the Switch lite.

Steam, are you gonna force developers to optimise their games like what Nintendo does? Or are you expecting us to download the FULL fat PC version of the game, and then play them on the lowest graphical settings? Good luck installing ONE game on it with that pathetic 64GB eMMC base model storage.
