Dont they recycle old unused chips rather than be buried under ground?

Wish there is more competition though, so we won't end up with some favorite brand missing new chips, basically increasing also price of other devices.

AnonD-731363, 16 Jul 2021Nothing is more abudant than water, sand and soil. "Nothing is more abundant than water, sand and soil."
Good thing that you already understood, if there is nothing more abundant than soil, it means that silicon is very abundant, since it is 1/4 of the SOIL, only oxygen exceeds silicon in abundance of elements

OhNom, 16 Jul 2021Silicon is the most abundant material in the earth's crustbut only Japan can refine it for smaller NM manufacturing process. so these semiconductor companies need materials, its Not easy to make silicon 99.9999999999% pure.

Anonymous, 16 Jul 2021Everything has an end.Literally no. You have no idea how big the planet is if you think the amount of silicon we have in this planet is finite in any important way.
The universe is literally infinite and we get an idea of it by the amount of silicon we find in this planet. The whole "we have plenty of problems here what do you do by launching rockets into space" comes from the idea that we live in a finite universe.
We literally don't and all our problems start *because* we delay the opening up of said infinity (by sending ships into space and then having them return w cargo). The sooner we become open into the possibility that all our problems are solvable once we tap the infinite resources of the universe, the sooner our problems will go away (most of them anyhow)...

Anonymous, 16 Jul 2021No way we are getting silicon shortage though. But we get.
Everything slowly creating doom for our civilization.
To gather one material we needs others.
I.E. all and every technology is conected in a small measures.

The question is, did they wilfully sell slots they knew didn't exist so they could boost the price per wafer by 2-300%?

Well soon or later when will be mineral and other natural and from nature resources shortage on planet most companies will waish.
Every story will end.
