alcatraz, 28 Jul 2021Those are some interesting points.
Check out the ZTE Axo... moreI hate underdisplay camera with a passion, so...
And with its sub 12Mp (8Mp) Ultra-Wide, 5Mp Macro and 2Mp depth it is the secondary cams are inferior to the 13Mp Ultra-Wide, 5Mp TeleMacro and identical useless 2Mp depth.
Also, I prefer thicker phones, the Poco F2 Pro is actually average at 8.9mm and he gets more battery than the Axon 30 at 4700mAh vs 4200mAh.
And it doesn't have a 3.5mm Jack nor IR Blaster, both of which have already been useful on my Poco F2 Pro.
If you like it, go for it, but for me, it is clearly not something I would ever want, it would be a serious downgrade even pop up and underdisplay camera put aside.

Check out the ZTE Axon 30. At 189gr and 7.8mm thick while providing 114cm2 of screen area, it's now my no 1 choice. What do you think?
The sd870 also has some impressive geekbench scores (~1050 single). Quite a lot more than the sd865 which is around ~900 single. If I'm not mistaken that is.

alcatraz, 21 Jul 2021That phone is actually the only one I've seriously con... moreWell, the Poco F2 Pro and regular K30 Pro sadly don't have an SD card slot indeed.
Literally the few things they should have done would be to:
*Add an SD card slot, even an hybrid one would be great but an independent one would be amazing !
*Replace the useless 2Mp depth sensor (and use the Ultra-Wide instead) by a 3x Telephoto like the K30 Pro Zoom have.
*Give the main camera OIS like the K30 Pro Zoom.
*Crank up the TeleMacro from 5Mp to 7Mp or 8Mp.
*Put a 90Hz or 120Hz display. (I personally don't care about it, but many do).
And this phone would have sold like cookies!
Even forgetting the pop up, it was one of the few non gaming and non Sony phones to have so much features.
Underdisplay camera still have the privacy issue though.
The "disappearing camera" are much better alternatives.

alcatraz, 19 Jul 2021This is great news. I want to see more under display camera... moreI, on the other hand, want it to stay under control and avoid flooding the market the same way the punch holes and notches did...
If you want fullscreen/non-interrupted display, pop up were already offering that, just ignore those who don't know what they talk about and describe it as fragile, it is totally false.

We now can do super slim displays, also we could have a display built in the case anyway.
Yes, it is hard to find our own dream phone...
And yes, this is really hard, the culprit is Android itself, while on Windows or Linux, you can make virtually make any hardware combo easily, Android doesn't use drivers the same way and require every phone to have its own version of Android coded...
The best I've heard in terms of customization was some people putting the K30 Pro Zoom's Telephoto sensor on a K30 Pro/Poco F2 Pro replacing the Macro camera.
And even there it was a true hell to do, have issues, and we can't replace the 2Mp depth camera, we are forced to replace the Macro...
On the other hand, doing a Linux phone could allow to make the features more customizable, either starting from a phone who already is Linux compatible, or making one from scratch with your own components.
And there are ways to run Android Apps on Ubuntu Touch.

Dudenoway, 19 Jul 202116:9 with qhd+ screen is impossible. Plus 7 inch is humongo... moreThanks for the suggestion. You're right. If I for some reason had to get a new phone it'd probably be a pop-up one like the Poco F2 Pro. Read the previous post here to get an idea why I'm not rushing to do so. 😁
The comment you made about the screen surprises me. If you look at screen area of large flagship 16:9 phones they have more screen area than the "so called" big screen phones today. Count in the fact that they're also bezelless now, it's laughable to me that screens can be too big, when they weren't before. That's what confuses me.

AnonD-909757, 20 Jul 2021Many don't care to have thicker and heavier phones, an... moreThat phone is actually the only one I've seriously considered getting in the past few years. Although it's called Redmi K30 Pro where live.
My current phone is also 219gr but it has a 121cm2 area display compared to 107cm2 for the Poco.
Also it has a 1440p display compared to 1080p.
Also it's 7.2mm instead of 8.9mm thick.
I believe the Poco does not have a memory card slot.
All in all that Poco is great. Just a few tiny issues.
With under display cameras I'm hoping that more phones have a completely full screen body. With more options the chance of getting a good option rises.
I have zero interest in gaming so they can take the graphics out completely for all I care. 😁 Just want massive geekbench scores on single/multi core so the phone lasts a few years.

Dudenoway, 20 Jul 2021Nice lol. Btw how did u think of my dream phone? Nice, quite "normal" compared to mine.
If we forget the camera, the Xperia 1 & 5 Mk3 are really close, though the 3x and 4.4x Telephoto make it quite close.
Camera wise, sadly I can only find the OnePlus 9 Pro with the IMX 789, and the only I can think of who have both a Telephoto and a more powerful Periscope Telephoto is the S21 Ultra.

But yeah, otherwise a good idea.
1080p amoled displays are not interesting to me though. There are a lot of those out there. As soon as you get higher resolutions they start to have curved edges displays which is crap, or the displays are much smaller than my old phone. 😁

Dudenoway, 18 Jul 2021Yes I knew u would be there lol. Btw what's ur ideal p... moreThis is complicated as I have several "level" of ideal phones, from current tech to futuristic one.
The base one would be the Poco F2 Pro but with a slightly more modern SoC, so it has Wi-Fi 6E (which may come handy to have one day) and a 2x minimum Telephoto rather than the 2Mp depth thingy, even the 8Mp 3x of the K30 Pro Zoom would be great.
I don't mind a midrange SoC like the SD780G or 778G as long as the latest instructions and tech are in, I don't need the most powerful one.
The step above is to make sure all cameras are 12Mp minimum, with a setup like A good Wide (like the IMX686 and more modern equivalents like the IMX766 or even IMX789, or the mightly Omnivision OV48C, or good Samsung (no need for the 100Mp+ ones) like the GN2 or GW3).
As for the Ultra-Wide goes, as long as it is 12Mp minimum, though a 16Mp one would be nice too, so the pixel density isn't too different between objects despite the difference of pixel per degrees caused by UW lenses, but there isn't much good 16Mp sensors available though.
The Telephoto with a 12Mp and 3x minimum.
The 2x TeleMacro with a 8Mp sensor minimum.
Add to that an Ultrasonic FPS rather than an optical one, and I would love this phone.
The step above that is basically either a pop up with 3D face recognition sensors (like the Oppo Find X) or no front camera at all.
A dual zoom camera setup (real continuously variable focal length) with one going from Ultra-Wide to Wide and the other Wide to Telephoto, the second one also being capable through focus control to do Portrait and Macro, all above 12Mp.
A physical microphone killswitch (like the alert slider on the OnePlus).
The step above is a super powerful and single sensor that does all those but with combined into one, with both OIS and Gimbal.
No front camera but additional 3D sensors on the back (both ToF LiDAR and Structured Light scanner) that can do 3D face recognition, including a UV floodlight and camera for added face recognition quality.
The ultrasonic FPS at this point would also be full-featured, meaning it read heartbeat, flesh density with automatic glove/screen/oil/water rejection, veins, distal phalanx, big area/fullscreen and multiple fingers compatible.
There is more and advanced privacy kill switches that allows to physically turn off stuff like GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GSM, DATA, Microphone, Cameras, all independently.
