              AnonD-986036, 18 Jul 2021I think that it is possible to have an 5G Huawei snapdragon... morePretty sure they would do this if possible but I'm wondering if there is either a technical reason or a reason related to the US restrictions why they can't. Many of their suppliers use some US tech in their components or manufacturing processes so the restrictions are impacting many components, not just chips. They even ran out of chargers at one point as there was some US tech involved so they had to find alternatives. Camera sensors may also be a problem. Wonder if the modems are also affected by the restrictions

                I think that it is possible to have an 5G Huawei snapdragon 888 Device instead of an 5G Kirin Huawei phone. All Huawei needs to do is to take an 4G Snapdragon 888, and then add their Balong 5G Modem that they used to put on their Kirin chips as an external modem for 5G. It might take more space, be less efficient, and have some compatibility issues with the Snapdragon chips, but maybe it is better than having an 4G phone at an £1000 price

They'll probably only be sold on the Chinese market and will be extremely difficult to buy. All of Huawei's 5g models have not been available for open purchase the whole of this year. They are only available in limited flash sales directly from Huawei or other official resellers or from unofficial 3rd party sellers at heavily marked up prices

The US government wants to stop their progress in terms of 5g as that is where Huawei is a leader and a threat to US technological dominance. Any company that uses any US technology in their products must apply for a special licence and not many companies so far have been given the licence

                      Hoping Huawei will return to the world stage , I kinda miss how Dxomarks changes everytime the top 4 releases their flagship.(Apple, Xiaomi, Samsung, Huawei). Competition is good win for the consumer.
                      Its too bad that the Chinese govt used them as a platform to be used for spying and now paying the price. i guess that this move in buying SD socs and depleting their own supplies will appease the US gov to reconsider them again.

                          GSMarena, its the other way around, P40 Pro will be announced with Kirin 9000 1st, sale begins mid of August, while the vanilla version maybe on November/December with SD888 4G.

                          They want to clear the Kirin 9000 first.
