The mechanism is really simple.
The display quality isn't compromised (there isn't even a millimeter of difference between the position of the two displays).
The selfie quality is totally normal.
There is privacy as the camera is literally and physically blinded.
We can see when it is uncovered, which add to the privacy aspect.
It is protected inside the phone so no "water" "IP rating" and "dust" excuse this time, so it won't be ruined by ignorant spreading lies like it happened with the pop up.

A small screen with synchronised display together with main display of hole size covers it so when you are not using camera it will provide privacy and full screen display too😀

Those things take even more screen room and some wide notches (like the Huawei Mate 30 Pro for example) and only have few sensors...

There are some signs also that they have separated. For example, they haven't used any imx600 or imx700 custom sensors on any models since the split. These were made by Sony exclusively for Huawei and they were used by Honor before the split but not since (perhaps they no longer have the right to use them). I think if they are still releasing phones similar in design to Huawei next year then it would be more telling rather than this year's models.
